CBS’ Saturday night series Ransom was never a huge success, and now it’s been revealed they’ve cancelled the TV show after one season.
5/19 update: Ransom may not be cancelled and could still be renewed for season two. Details here.
The drama follows Eric Beaumont (Luke Roberts), an experienced crisis and hostage negotiator, and his team who are brought in to save lives when no one else can. The cast also includes Brandon Jay McLaren, Nazneen Contractor, and Sarah Greene.
Ransom debuted on a Sunday night in January to a low rating of 0.85 in the 18-49 demo and 6.65 million viewers. Once the show moved to its regular timeslot on Saturday nights, the numbers dropped even further. Overall, season one averaged a 0.43 in the 18-49 demo and 3.46 million viewers, making it CBS’ lowest-rated series for the 2016-2017 season.
However, despite low ratings, the show did have fans. When we asked viewers if they’d watch a second season of Ransom, 91% said “yes.”
Additionally, the show was produced internationally which made it less expensive for CBS than some of the network’s other series. Nevertheless, the network has decided not to move on with Ransom.
What do you think? Did you see Ransom? Do you wish it had been renewed for a second season?
It’s disappointing. I love thriller type programming. Unfortunately Ransom just gets worse and worse after each episode. Not just bad acting, unreal situations, horribly shot scenes and the lead is Way arrogant for someone negotiating for someones life. It’s unfortunate.
Bad ending …. want if will not renew a end to this seson…. 🙁
Loved Ransom, please don’t cancel.
Loved Ransom!!!! Please Renew!!!
Fantastic show. A fan from the far East. It has been so long since a good show with good scripts are made.
Ransom is a very good show – please do not cancel.
I loved Ransom!
I really dont understand what is up with these networks! Every new program that comes out that I truly enjoy viewing, gets cancelled. The trends typically show some programs, slow out of the gate. How can the viewers get hooked and ratings go up if the program is cancelled within one season? Ransom was, in my opinion, that program for me. I DVR all my late programs. I couldn’t tell you the last time I watched live programs. When programs are DVR recorded, will this reflect in viewership? During mid season of Ransom, I got it. I think the program… Read more »
Honestly, Ransom was such an amazing, enticing show that I adored. I don’t understand how the ratings could possibly be that low and why they wouldn’t at least make one more season to finish the story.
Another good and different show bites the dust…and after only one season! Really!! I watched it and enjoyed it. It was a welcome change on a Saturday night from repeats of the weeks shows, news shows and sports. Sorry to see this one go too.
