This evening, fans of ABC’s Revenge may be in for a surprise. The freshman drama has been replaced by an ABC special with a similar name — Revenge for Real. That’s no doubt the network’s attempt to attract regular viewers to watch a news special. So, has the real Revenge been cancelled? When will it be back?
For those who aren’t familiar with the TV series, Revenge revolves around Emily Thorne (Emily Van Camp), a young woman who comes to the Hamptons with a secret agenda; to exact vengeance on the wealthy people who ruined her family’s life and reputation. The drama also features the talents of Ashley Madekwe, Christa B. Allen, Connor Paolo, Gabriel Mann, Henry Czerny, Joshua Bowman, Madeleine Stowe, and Nick Wechsler.
Revenge debuted to a healthy 3.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 10.0 million total viewers. Week two saw the all-important demo fall 18% and week three dropped another 11%. Over the next several weeks, the ratings rose and fell, dropping as low as a 2.1 demo rating.
The way things were going, it looked like Revenge might be heading for the cancellation pile — like so many failed ABC dramas that had come before it — but the numbers evened off and the show’s been averaging a healthy 2.5 in the demo in 2012. While the show isn’t a big ratings hit, it certainly isn’t a flop either. Revenge’s demo average is actually stronger than that of aging shows like Castle and Private Practice.
Unfortunately, ABC has now put the series on hiatus for four weeks — a bit of a scheduling gamble that could seriously hurt viewership.
ABC News’ Revenge for Real will take over for two weeks and then repeats of a new Thursday night drama, Missing, will fill the slot for two weeks after that. Revenge isn’t slated to return until April 4th. It’s unclear if that night will feature a repeat or one of the six remaining originals.
The way things stand right now, it looks like a sure bet that Revenge will be renewed for a second season. Hopefully, enough viewers will return to watch the show after the hiatus so the ratings don’t drop and put the series’ future in jeopardy.
UPDATE: Revenge will now return on April 11th with a recap show. An original regular episode will air on April 18th and the finale will run on May 23rd.
What do you think? Will this hiatus cause the ratings to drop or do you think Revenge is assured of a season two renewal?

I am so TICKED OFF. Revenge is my one and only series that I never MISS.
Every Wednesday I look forward to seeing Revenge, please don’t take it off the air. The replacement shows are not great. I have been following the show since the first episode. ABC has consistently teased us with great programs during this time slot and then suddenly cancel. Please bring the show back!
Can u plaeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeese finish Revenge? I dont wan to see client list or missing or anything else on Wednesday nite. I loved Revenge.
Put the show back on! I really loved it…and there aren’t many week to week series anymore. I’m sick, sick, sick or reality shows…let’s have some acting and drama. Come on now!

My friends and I look forward to watching Revenge every week. We are already completely invested in this show. What is up with abc. First it was All My Children, then One Life to Live. Abc needs to leave Revenge on and return AMC and OLTL to daytime. Stop messing with our lives. Leave the good ones alone!
I love this show and am very disappointed with ABC for not telling us what is going on about the show. They owe it to the faithful watchers.
I like the show but if ABC thinks I’m waiting 6 weeks for them to play games they better think again. How about other weeks when they substituted a rerun on a regular night? I,m moving on to something else.
Please don’t take “Revenge” off the air. I wish they hadn’t changed the format and as a result, aren’t watching ABC (I know…they thought they wouldn’t attract viewers during the boring basketball. Believe me, not a lot of us watch basketball.) I’ve really loved “Revenge”…..all of the characters are “dislikable”, but they’re nicer than the management I work with!
Please bring Revenge back its so nice and about time to see aa great weekly series I am so tired of reality show.Abc keep it on.
This show is so wonderful, my sister and others friends reserved Wednesday night for Revenge and we are VERY dissapointed and annoyed with the inconsistance of the show. I would like to see a commitment from ABC & the producers,as with others series,to respect the audience and to work on increase the viewers (BE CONSISTANCE,PRESENT THE SHOW WEEKLY ). This is a very different ,entretained and wonderfull casts . ABC is hurting Revenge with this other Revenge for real, stupid and with out of inspiration to continuing see the show. PLEASE DO NOT CANCEL A WONDERFULL SHOW SO WELL PRESENTED AND… Read more »
Totally disappointed the show is not on, my daughter and I look forward to every Wednesday to sit down and watch it together it was like a ritual we had every week. I even had my husband and mother-in law interested in the series. It will be nice if the network lets the viewers know if the program will ever be aired again.
I haven’t missed an episode and could hardly wait for Wednesday to arrive!!!
Please keep this on the air; I love watching…
I have been looking forward to a new episode. first its replaced by a news story now missing how many episodes of a mother looking for her child can there be Every Wednesday I come home plan my night around Revenge only to be disappointed. ABC owes it to the viewers to let them know whats going on. If it is canceled they need to end it properly.
Please don’t take Revenge off!!!!! I really like this show, There is so much good about this show, that I even taped it while I was on vacation.. I look forward every Thursday for this show.. It’s one of the best shows in a long time… Thank you
