Last May, fans of The CW’s sitcom, The Game, were upset to learn that the sitcom had been cancelled after three seasons on the air. Though there was some resolution in the last episode, it was hardly satisfying enough for devoted viewers. The web has recently been abuzz with news that the show is coming back but can you believe it?
Created by Mara Brock Akil, The Game began as a spin-off of the long-running comedy, Girlfriends. The series centers around a first year medical student (Tia Mowry) who chooses to follow her pro-football boyfriend (Pooch Hall) to San Diego. Others in the cast include Brittany Daniel, Coby Bell, Wendy Raquel Robinson, Hosea Chanchez, and Barry Floyd.
Even before the show was cancelled by the CW, there was talk about the possibility of Black Entertainment Television (BET) picking up the show for a fourth year. The cable-channel has been playing the sitcom repeats and the show fits in with their other programming.
In July, Mowry told TV Guide, “[BET chairman and CEO] Debra Lee is trying everything and anything to make this happen. The Game gets higher ratings than BET’s original programming, and we’ve heard there would be a huge marketing campaign. So I personally believe the show would be taken to another level.”

Unfortunately, there’s been little word of any real progress since then. Last week, rumors started circulating that a deal had been struck between BET and the show’s studio, CBS Television. Unfortunately, they turned out to be false.
Last night, Mowry put the rumors to rest. Via her Twitter account, she wrote, “I am so sorry to tell you this, this whole THE GAME thing getting picked up is NOT true! After talking to agents lawyers etc it is not true.” A deal may still happen but, for the moment, there isn’t one.
When or if a new deal is made, it remains to be seen how it would work. The contracts for the cast and creatives have lapsed so new ones would have to be negotiated. Because BET has less money to spend, they’d likely have to take pay cuts.
On top of that, some of those involved with the show have also moved on to other projects and may not be available. Hall is working on CBS’ new sitcom Accidentally on Purpose, Mowry has several projects in the works, and Akil is part of ABC’s new Cougar Town comedy with Courteney Cox Arquette.

I love “The Game”. I found it to be extremely entertaining and in some aspects, very realistic as to how society lives their life in the view of relationships. I HATE to see the show go, and constantly watch the BET re-runs, although they tend to run the same ones over and over. At least run Season 3! LOL! Well, I hope and PRAY that “The Game” can commence again, with a new season on BET!
I definitely think that the game should be aired on BET….however, i think BET should stop blocking so much of the profanity out because on the reruns they show they block absolutely too much out! Please bring the Game back on somebody’s network!!
DAMN I LOVE THIS SHOW IT HAS ALOT OF COMEDY, DRAMA, & ROMANCE IN THIS TV SHOW. ITS SAD THAT IT COULDNT CONTINUE SOON AS I STARTED WATCHING IT MAYBE 3MONTHS AFTER THAT THE SHOW WAS CANCELED. BRING BACK “THE GAME” !
The Game is a good sitcom to compete with the reality shows and win.We the people are tellin you guys what we want and you are not listen obviously.The Game shows the kindness in mistakes that african-americans make you canlearn from a gives the world a different perspective and not just the typical image.The values is what is most important for BET inspiration,motivation,black star power and this shows has all.If the numbers were close just dropped slightly just switch slots not everyone has Tivo damn it!
i love The Game! I heard about it when it was being aired on CW but i never had a chance to watch it! once BET started airing it I’ve watched every show(at least i think so) i would love for BET to take over and do the 4th season. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE somebody pick the show up!! it’s clear that millions of people love this show. we have been watching the reruns repeatly and now we are so ready for the new season.
Please please please bring back the 4th SEASON of the GAME!

Reality shows. I am sick of seeing them. It is the Best SHOW ever and am such a BIG FAN of the CAST and I am SOOOOOOO ADDICTED to this SHOW! I would be CRUSHED if another network DID NOT PICK UP THIS GREAT SHOW………..

The Game is an incredible show. All black sitcoms, that are created from a more realistic perspective and are generally very well written, always seem to get cancelled before their times. BET ‘should’ take over the show AND create new episodes. Also, in the future, black writers should make proposals for their show ideas to BET first; to be sure to have the “demographics” for ratings squared away!

Somebody please pick up the tv series of “The Game.” This show is by far one of the best shows on television. I am so sick of all these reality tv shows and even dumber shows on the CW like Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill, Vampire Diaries(I think), and so on. It would make sense to add new characters into “The Game”, since football players do get traded sometimes; but if that were to happen it probably wouldn’t work; sort of like when UPN’s “One on One” went into its fifth season and essentially became its own spin-off, because two of the main characters moved to another state and lived with four new main characters. I love The Game. It is my favorite show. I have been waiting on the fourth season for who knows how long. If the old cast comes back then I would still watch it. I think that Pooch, Tia, Wendy, Hosea, Coby, and Brittany made the show watchable. I wouldn’t watch it anymore if the cast changed, it just wouldn’t be the same.

OMG i love The Game soooooooooooooooooooooooo much! This is like the best show in years. I think it really took the show getting played on BET so often for everyone to realize just how great the show actually is, and for the black demographic to actually watch it. Yes, they should have a 4th season, I love the game and I believe that it can be a very successful show on BET.
