Last May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.
With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.
Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.
To no surprise, NBC has decided not to order additional episodes of Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?
UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

I love this show! Not only do I love it, but I have hooked up friends and family with this show. It had a rocky start, but just kept getting better. It is a show about challenges met, struggles overcome, and the emotions of those who bust their asses to save our lives. It has a cast which has developed a a good hold on the characters and should have been allowed to continue growing and entertaining us. What now? Another gag worthy reality show? Ack!!!!
Trauma is the best new medical show on tv! Why do they take away all the good shows! I’m very dissappointed.
Thank GOD this is being cancelled.
It is a horrible show and a disgrace to anyone in the Emergency Medical Field. It portrays EMT’s/Paramedics in such a bad light. This is NOT real life by any means. There are so many things wrong with the “treatment” these paramedics give.
Thank you NBC for doing SOMETHING right in regards to this show.
DONT Cancel trauma its the only good thing about a monday!
Both Trauma and Mercy are good shows and should be left on the air!
My hubby and I love this show. He is a paramedic and we love watching this together and talking about what they do. I actually get an understanding and an explination of what they are doing why I am watching it. I am sad it will be gone.
Very disappointed that Trauma is being cancelled!!! I am a HUGE fan and would love to see it back – there are a lot of other shows to pick from why this one? You need to quit pinching pennies and bring it back!
So it goes, the penny pinchers at NBC/GE don’t ever let anything time to develop..As an ex-“City” boy, it’s been nice to see the backdrop, and tell my friends in Hawaii, Eh, I used to go there, or I lived 2 blocks from that! Sheez, come on NBC get your stuff together…If you keep it they will watch! Aloha
If not I guess I go back to Cable channels!!!
I agree with Kerri. i would rush home from night school missing the first ten minutes of the show. i am hooked on this. as far as the two people having sex on the truck, hey sex sells! IT’S A TV SHOW! it got my attention. rabbit is h-h-hot!!!! of course its drauma tv. theyre all gonna be like that. it won’t be like that in real life.
this is bull. i am a faithful watcher of trauma every week. i cant wait for the next airing. they need to rethink cancelling the show. what a disappointment. awesome show
What the hack, You just got use to watch a good show and you want to end it. ????? I thought it was number 1 ………………. what ever …………………………………………………. just trying to piss off the working class ………….
LOVE TRAUMA…..SHOULD NOT BE CANCELLED !!
I am very dissappointed! It is a GREAT show! To me, even better than ER. Don’t think it was given a chance.
They need to keep it. Trauma is great and I love the characters!
That is too bad. This was a great show. Growing up in SF it was nice to see the beautiful city … why don’t they give it a chance?
