It’s hard to believe but, after four seasons and 84 episodes, the ABC comedy, Ugly Betty, has come to an end.
Ugly Betty revolves around Betty Suarez (America Ferrera), a sweet girl who tries to navigate through the catty world of high fashion and Mode magazine. Others in the cast include Eric Mabius, Tony Plana, Ana Ortiz, Becki Newton, Mark Indelicato, Michael Urie, Vanessa Williams, and Ashley Jensen.
The series was a moderate success for its first two seasons but then dropped in season three. It would have been on the bubble but ABC ended up giving it an early renewal, likely because they wanted to produce enough episodes for a syndication package.
This season, ABC put it on Friday nights, hoping that the devout fans would still watch. Not many did and ABC eventually moved it to Wednesday nights after Eastwick failed to catch on.
When Betty was sold into syndication, the ABC network and production company were likely disappointed that each episode only brought a “low six figures” when purchased by the TV Guide channel. If Ugly Betty’s fate wasn’t sealed before, that likely did it. In January, ABC announced that they were canceling Ugly Betty after four seasons.
On the positive side, this gave the cast and crew time to tie up the show’s loose ends and to give it a proper finale. Tonight, ABC aired the last episode and it wrapped up this way…
Betty has accepted a new job in London. After it looks like Daniel isn’t coming to Betty’s going away party, he finally shows up but can’t go in to see her. Surprisingly, he later steps down from his job at Mode, making Wilhelmina the sole editor. He says that he wants to start over and that means following Betty to London. He meets her there, on the street and says that he’d like to take her out on a date.
As Betty heads back to work, she notes that she’s going to need a new assistant and he jokes that he might submit his resume. As the music plays, we see happy Betty disappear into the crowd. The title “Ugly Betty” appears on screen and then the “Ugly” disappears.
What did you think of the last episode? Are you happy with Betty’s choices? Is there anything that you would have done differently?

This was my favorite show. I followed it everywhere it went. I’m sad it’s going off the air. Vanessa Williams role was the best on TV. A black diva role is hard to come by and she nailed it every week. ABC has made some bad choices cancelling some of thier best shows. Ugly Betty, Dirty Sexy Money, what’s next? I loved The witches of Eastwick spin off. While I sit there and watch horrible shows stay on the air, I don’t get it. Why couldn’t you leave Ugly Betty on Thursday’s at eight? Leave good things alone.. I haven’t… Read more »
It was amazing did an absolute amazing job tying up all the ends. Loved the ending, i wouldn’t change one thing about it. By far the best series finale i have ever seen.
i love how it ended and i am glad that daniel finally realised that hes inlove with bettywish it could have gone on from there though 🙁
I absolutely loved Ugly Betty. I never missed a show. I am in mourning that it is over.
Please consider a follow up with Betty is London, with several characters following her, it could really be a break out winner. I miss everyone already. I think Daniel should have kissed Betty before he stepped away from her on the steps in London.
I just know that you could really really come up with a winner.
God Bless Ya, and you made me smile and feel good for a long time, I just wanted more.
Yes I would have like to see her and Daniel hook up. Maybe a movie could bring them back together in a wedding. Fab. Love that she is doing her thing though big timer in London that was good and to see evil turn good. I liked that best of all made me and my daughter cry at the leaving scene.
It wasn’t too bad, closed enough doors for closure, but left enough open for imagination.
Yes I liked it- and we need a follow up movie like” sex and the city” did. Plus I always thought that Daniel really liked Betty.
I like the final episode. The “date” seemed a little more tepid than I had hoped, but it left a bit of an open ending, which makes me hope that they are perhaps toying with the idea of a MOVIE?!?! This would be wonderful, because it would really allow a full development of Daniel and Betty’s relationship into a romantic one.
Perfect! True to her soul, Betty chose the right path!
I cried four times. It was emotional, funny and heartwarming. PERFECT ending. I absoluelty loved it.
I LOVE Ugly Betty and was so sad watching the final episode tonight, knowing it would be the last one I’d see!! Especially considering I really enjoyed the possibility of Betty with Daniel and their potential new life in London!! Do you think they could continue on? A new series….not Ugly Betty…but “Betty” perhaps???? I would be in HEAVEN if that happened! Just a thought! 🙂
No… I’m not satisfied. I would be satisfied if it wasn’t ending. I need this show. It is one of the few pleasures I have during my week! It should not end! Someone save it!!! Please?!
I’m so angry it ended like why. It was such a great show and hilarious, the comedy was always up to date and it always made me laugh. I’ve never looked forward to watching a show other than ugly betty. Get it back on!!!!
Ugly Betty had a PERFECT ending. But I’ll miss the show…everyone felt like a friend!!!
Perfect ending….or new beginning.
