Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist has ended after two seasons on NBC, and the series had a major impact on Jane Levy, the star of the musical comedy. She spoke about the cancellation of the series with Vanity Fair.
When production wrapped on the series, Levy felt like they would be back for a third season, even if it wasn’t on NBC. She said to herself that ‘of course they were coming back’ when leaving her belongings in storage. A move to Peacock looked like a done deal, but that fell through.
Levy said more about appearing on Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist:
“Honestly, the main feeling I have is gratitude. I feel like I did everything that I wanted to with this show. If it’s over, I don’t have any regrets. I gave it my all and so did everybody else. The show and the pandemic are intrinsically linked for me. Our show is about connection and empathy and community and grief. These are all the themes that we’re dealing with globally. My philosophy is that if the actor doesn’t have an experience, the audience won’t. Sometimes you have to go to painful places.”
The series could still be saved since LionsgateTV is still shopping the show to other outlets but Peacock was viewed as the most likely savior.
What do you think? Do you want Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist to return for a third season? Would you have watched new episodes on Peacock?
F’n suits should have brought it back. Great show!!
Yes I would watch. I will hope that it returns and is more like the first season. She should be the only one with the powers.
Please bring it back! This is a wonderful show. Reality TV, game shows and crime shows are not lighthearted like this. Music and dancing is feel good.
Yes I love this show there is nothing like it on tv
Yes definitely
Really bummed this terrific show was canceled. Hoping some network will have the good sense to pick it up. There are not enough light, smart, fun shows to watch. PLEASE continue Jane Levy & this AMAZINGLY talented cast & crew!!
Oh this show should still have a place on TV. It was so real with hope & love & despair & grief all wrapped up in compelling characters. The singing & dancing were spot on & brought a sense of joy even when that wasn’t the emotion being expressed. A truly unique show should be celebrated, not cancelled, likely for some tired retread.
I didn’t watch it, so please, don’t ask me!
Definitely wanted to continue watching. Hope it gets picked up again
Yes please bring it back!!!
Yes, absolutely!!! Unique and entertaining, with talented actors/singers. AND IT’S NOT A GAME SHOW!!
Yes, please, bring it back! There’s nothing else like it. Light and deep, beautiful and raw. I love it all. Please bring it back!
Yes! I enjoy this show so much. I would love to see it brought back for a third (fourth, fifth…) season. I appreciate that it deals with serious things like loss, grief, racism, LBGTQ+ issues and more in an intelligent, thoughtful and respectful manner. I also enjoy the fun singing/dancing parts, they get you out of your head for a few minutes. Please bring it back, the world needs more of this and a whole lot less reality trash.
This show needs to be saved!!! It’s absolutely amazing…so refreshing and will be extremely missed if it doesn’t come back
This show deserves to continue. It’s one of my favorites!!! I’m hoping it finds a new home!!
