Why did CBS just cancel most of their new TV shows? Recently, network boss Kelly Kahl spoke with Deadline about the decision to cancel Broke, Carol’s Second Act, Tommy, and God Friended Me.
With the exception of God Friended Me, which wrapped its second season this spring, all the shows cancelled debuted during the 2019-20 season. CBS also cancelled Man with a Plan, which is currently airing its fourth season.
Speaking to Deadline, Kahl revealed it was a “tough” decision to cancel Broke, God Friended Me, Carol’s Second Act, and Tommy:
At the end of the day they weren’t doing the numbers we were hoping for, and despite liking them creatively, knowing timely decisions were upon us, we had to make tough calls to move on from those shows. You want to keep them all for another season; that’s what makes these calls tough. You invest a lot of time and effort and people put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into these shows, and when you have to say goodbye. It’s a tough call.”
What do you think? Did you watch any of CBS’ cancelled series? Would you have watched another season?
I am sorry to see Tommy cancelled. I really enjoyed the show and looked forward to it every Thursday. I normally do not write about things like this, but as I said I loved the show.
Please reconsider keeping it on the air.
Great characters and interesting show.
I loved the show Tommy. Really hate to see it cancelled. I thought the show had character and seemed to keep my interest.
Love love love god friended me & carols second act I truly hope the network will reconsider
Really loved God Friended Me. Even when CBS bounced it around, I found it and enjoyed every moment. I think it was an extremely poor decision to cancel it.
PLEASE!!! CANCEL McGIVER ITS SO LAME!!
I ENJOYED TOMMY VERY MUCH AND WISH THEY WOULD CONSIDER ANOTHER SEASON.
I watched all four shows being cancelled by CBS religiously. There aren’t very many new shows that are refreshing, honest, funny, or have a message. Now there are four less. I was really surprised that all four were cancelled. Makes me wonder who is doing the reviews; other competing networks?
I watched all 4 as well. Were actually high among my favorites. Very sad to see all 4 go
I loved watching Carols Second Act. My family loved this together. Consider keeping the show
We definitely would have watched Season 3 of God Friended Me and any others after that. It was the best show on tv and now was not the time to cancel it with everything going on. It’s CBS’s fault the show didn’t have great numbers. They put it on Sunday nights, right after 60 minutes and for those people who taped it to watch later, they never knew if it was going to be cut off or not because of 60 minutes constantly running over their allotted time. It wasn’t always on every week either and people couldn’t count on… Read more »
God friended me. Really a fun and intriguing show all the reality shows are really getting old I don’t want to watch them anymore. This showed real creativity and thought. Please reconsider. Thanks for your time.
I am very sad that God Friended me has been canceled!
Definitely would have watched another season of God Friended Me.
Cant say that about many other shows.
God Friended Me was a quality show. I never missed it. If I thought I would, I recorded it. I was stunned when I realized the last show I watched would be the finale. If at all possible, please bring it back!
I see CBS is starting to follow the other 2 National stations down into the abyss of crap. Canceling the best thnig on their Sunday line up – God Friended Me, a true feel good show. As for the other shows perhaps you could pick a time slot and stick with it! We watched all of these shows as well as others in the past that have been canceled. Seems they always get canceled when they start jacking their time slots around.
Very disappointed with God Friended Me and Tommy being cancelled. Goodbye CBS
Really liked Tommy. Am disappointed aboutvthe cancellation. Also with carols second act and broke. It was cute.
I was so proud of CBS for putting on such an entertaining and quality show that the entire family truly couldn’t wait to see. From my children to my grandchildren watch every week and it became the subject of discussion all week.
That program had bridged the gap between generations and brought my family closer together.
Please find a way to reconsider the unforgiving choice that you have made.
