Why did CBS just cancel most of their new TV shows? Recently, network boss Kelly Kahl spoke with Deadline about the decision to cancel Broke, Carol’s Second Act, Tommy, and God Friended Me.
With the exception of God Friended Me, which wrapped its second season this spring, all the shows cancelled debuted during the 2019-20 season. CBS also cancelled Man with a Plan, which is currently airing its fourth season.
Speaking to Deadline, Kahl revealed it was a “tough” decision to cancel Broke, God Friended Me, Carol’s Second Act, and Tommy:
At the end of the day they weren’t doing the numbers we were hoping for, and despite liking them creatively, knowing timely decisions were upon us, we had to make tough calls to move on from those shows. You want to keep them all for another season; that’s what makes these calls tough. You invest a lot of time and effort and people put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into these shows, and when you have to say goodbye. It’s a tough call.”

I can’t believe Tommy was cancelled! Especially after that finale cliffhanger, you jumped the gun CBS. I think it’s all about streaming and CBS All Access, away with the rest…shameful.

I’m disappointed that CBS canceled TOMMY. Given another season, I’m sure it would have garnered more viewers – aka – ratings. Perhaps a cable outlet will add it to its schedule, providing cast, crew, et. al., are available.
I’m so disappointed it was great show with amazing actors. There are other shows on right now that should be cancelled but there not.
I’m going to miss God Friended me I’ll miss the all of the actors. There are other shows should be cancelled. Why take this one?

I watched God Friended Me and Tommy.: I also watch All Rise which is the only one renewed for 2020-2021 season.
I’m very disappointed in the cancellations. God Friended Me at least ended but it could have gone on. Someone must have a problem with God. Regarding Tommy, I can only believe someone has a problem with women in authority. Big mistake CBS.
I loved God friended me and would definitely watch another season
I didn’t watch very much television until God friended me started because all of the television shows were about the same. All of the tv shows are police shows with a lot of violence and murder or sci-fi which I have no interest in. I hope another network picks God friended me up and their ratings soar and pass CBS. God Friended me was the best show on television and showed people helping each other and that’s what we need now.
I DO NOT THINK YOU GAVE TOMMY A CHANCE!! THE SHOW WAS GREAT. YOU COULD HAVE CHANGED THE TIMELINE AND PUT IT BEFORE BLUE BLOODS. TO SEE IF THE RATINGS CHANGED. IT WAS ON THURSDAY NIGHT AGAINST HOW TO GET AWAY WITH MURDER, AND LAW & ORDER SVU. IT DID NOT STAND A CHANCE AGAINST THAT TIME SLOT. IT WAS WRONG TO CANCEL IT!!!
I am very disappointed about Tommy being canceled. It was barely the first season and I enjoyed watching Tommy because I have never seen a woman as a police chief. And I thought that show was very interesting and even though it might be low ratings but you did not give it a chance. Please bring it back.
VERY disappointed God Friended Me and Tommy have been canceled. They were by far two of the best series on TV today. Shame on CBS for not sticking to quality and originality.
