What’s This TV Show About?
Airing on the CBS television network, the Good Sam TV show stars Sophia Bush, Jason Isaacs, Skye P. Marshall, Michael Stahl-David, Omar Maskati, Davi Santos, Wendy Crewson, and Edwin Hodge. In the story, Doctor Sam Griffith (Bush) is a gifted heart surgeon who excels in her new leadership role as chief of surgery at Lakeshore Sentinel Hospital. The former chief of surgery, her former boss and renowned father, Doctor Rob “Griff” Griffith (Isaacs), had fallen into a coma. When Griff wakes up months later demanding to resume his duties, Sam is tasked with supervising this egotistical expert with a scalpel who never acknowledged his daughter’s stellar talent. As Griff defies Sam’s authority and challenges her medical expertise, the big question becomes whether this father and daughter will ever be able to mend their own relationship as expertly as they heal the hearts of their patients.
Season One Ratings
The first season of Good Sam averaged a 0.25 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 2.20 million viewers in the live+same day ratings (including DVR playback through 3:00 AM). While these numbers don’t include further delayed or streaming viewing, they are a very good indicator of how a show is performing, especially when compared to others on the same channel. There can be other economic factors involved in a show’s fate, but typically the higher-rated series are renewed and the lower-rated ones are cancelled. Find out how Good Sam stacks up against other CBS TV shows.
Good Sam has been cancelled, so there will not be a second season. Could it be revived someday? Stay tuned for further updates.
Telly’s Take
Will CBS cancel or renew Good Sam for season two? While the network has plenty of crime and procedural dramas, CBS doesn’t have any other medical dramas on the schedule. That could help the series’ chances but, it’s also the lowest-rated scripted series on the network. Good Sam could be renewed but I think it will most likely be cancelled instead. 5/13/22 update: Good Sam has been cancelled so there won’t be a second season on CBS.

What do you think? Were you hoping that the Good Sam TV show would be renewed for a second season? Are you sorry that CBS cancelled this TV series, instead?
Good Sam is a good show bad time slot and bad night it competes against 3 NBC shows on Wednesday….we watch this on demand but we like it
Please do not cancel Good Sam. Give it a chance to find its audience. It has been a slow start. But the episodes are getting much better. May need better writing. But
it needs a chance to survive. There have been so many interruptions with this show. I do look forward to Wednesday’s
for this show, then I find out that it will not be on. CBS could do a rerun of prior episodes. Instead they are showing reruns of other programs. Sophia Bush, Jason Isaacs are outstanding. Maybe a different night would be good. Love this show!
CBS tried rerunning the pilot, and it didn’t work.
Please bring back Good Sam. Jason Isaacs could carry it but he shouldn’t have to. Better writing would help, as would good Production Design (like the kind Bill Eigenbrodt rescued Numb3rs with.
YES!! Please renew Good Sam! It’s an awesome series and I love the story line and the actors. If this is cancelled, I would be very disappointed in CBS.
Enjoy Good Sam very much. I do Watch it the next day on Paramount +. Streaming is so much better.
Okay so am I only who is thinking the way they go about renewing shows is wayyy outdated. I get it they are cable companies and they survive by real time views BUT they have all almost adapted into companies like paramount plus, Disney plus, and Hulu to name a few for streaming. We are in a time now where companies like dish and direct tv are just flat out way to expensive no matter what package you opt for. People are now getting rid of these for streaming apps which are cheaper to maintain and is just a flat… Read more »
Streaming is never going to replace cable. People can say it all they want, but it’s not going to happen. Shows make more money off of more ads on the big networks than they do over limited commercials on a streaming service. The studios make more money from airing on a network than streaming. They’re never going to make as much money from streaming as they do with cable.
The problem with Good Sam is that they did take EVERYTHING into account – live ratings, Live+7, on demand, Paramount Plus, etc. It didn’t do anything. The numbers still went down. They never increased.
Our family likes Good Sam. Hope it is renewed.
I wanted to like Good Sam but not fond of any of the characters. Too much like a soap opera .. sorry
I was enjoying GOOD SAM very much until the addition of the actress Victoria Rowell playing a mother and estranged wife. Rowell’s role is always that of the manipulative and underhanded person who intentionally interferes with the lives of those around her. And the character she plays are weak and petty–not strong and capable. I can’t watch the new dynamics. I have a medical background and thought that the discovery and diagnostic efforts of the medical staff were quite interesting. I didn’t like how a father and daughter were not being supportive of each other, but it seemed to me… Read more »
I hope it gets renewed. Jason Isaacs is a great actor, and hes see urtounded by so j any good actors…some plot weakness can be fixed, but good acting and compelling stories are rare. Keep it coming.
This show is terrible. The dynamics between father and daughter is ridiculous and boring. Watched the first 5 and it just seems to be getting worse. Can’t watch this anymore.
I will be very disappointed if they cancel Good Sam as well as many other people I have spoken to. It is a series that I believe will gain more viewers if given a second season. It is unlike the crime shows that spread more and more negativity in the world we live here in. Give this show the opportunity to continue to entertain
us and leave us feeling good about people and life in n general. Love love this show and also was so excited to be able to see Sophia Bush again.
I hope they do not Cancel-as it should be Renewed for many Seniors started watching this -but out of all Dr. Shows -This one (Good Sam. & The Resident are never missed. This Good Sam show keeps their mind active because it is easy for them to follow . I myself enjoy show & can’t wait for more . Thnx & please Keep Good Sam. On TV .
Love Show
As a *Senior* I completely disagree! This show is crap. I dare say it may be one of the worst medical shows I have ever seen. It more of love triangles and families gone wrong. Disgusting in my book. The Resident I thoroughly enjoy but this is garbage!
The Resident, Chicago Med and The Good Doctor are all better than Good Sam.
It didn’t gain any viewers when One Chicago was on hiatus and airing reruns. It didn’t gain any viewers with zero competition. It lost out to RERUNS of Chicago P.D. FROM THIS SEASON constantly, in addition to losing out to new episodes (which was expected). If you lose out to reruns of a 9 year old show, that’s bad. Throughout all platforms, their numbers didn’t improve. It doesn’t make financial sense for CBS to renew something they’re not making a profit on.
I don’t care for this show, not that great acting especially the guy that plays Sam’s dad, canceling would be fine with me.
I enjoy medical shows. Sick to death of reality shows. Love Good Sam.
Y2. Renew. Its a great. Show
