Though things were looking good for a second season of CBS’ vampire show, Moonlight has been cancelled. The show has loyal followers, the ratings were decent, and the series often won its timeslot. What happened?
Essentially Moonlight has been cut for a number of reasons. The rest of the network’s schedule is quite strong in the ratings and it certainly makes no sense to cancel one of the stronger series. If Moonlight were on the ratings-challenged CW, it certainly would have been renewed.
Like Jericho last season, Moonlight has a devout but small audience. Unfortunately, CBS’ decision to resurrect Jericho didn’t work out so well for them. Though many campaigned to get Jericho renewed, fewer people tuned in. CBS likely feels a bit burned by that experience and is reluctant to go down that road again.
The cancellation also stems from the fact that CBS is feeling very confident about their new batch of drama pilots. They’ve given a greenlight for four new dramas this fall and there just wasn’t any room left on the schedule for Moonlight. They know that Moonlight’s audience is unlikely to grow very much and would rather take a chance on a new show.
There’s been much upheaval behind-the-scenes and it’s been reported that the network hasn’t been impressed with the show’s creative development. The ratings were also usually lower than both its lead-in (Ghost Whisperer) and lead-out (Numb3rs).
CBS has given the okay for another season of The Unit. With the network’s full schedule, the drama will likely end up being bumped from Tuesdays and end up on Fridays in Moonlight’s old slot.
Moonlight’s series finale is set to air this Friday, May 16th. Stay tuned!

That’s retarted. They could have least had another seasons just to tie up the loose ends. So many things were left out! It makes me angry that people just leave things hanging like that!
It just infuriates me that every time a great show turns up the producers decide to pull the plug. Perhaps cbs should pull the plug on its producers or whomever makes the decision to keep or cancel shows. Small viewing? I have been reading all the replies and people from all over the world not only have heard of Moonlight but love it. CBS get a grip on what the viewers really want. You are sooooo out touch with your viewing audiance. What more could you ask for….a great love story….mixed with a splash of raw seduction into vampirism…

OMGGG THAT IS SO NOT TRUE! just check out youtube and all the hits the show has! CBS really screwed up this is the year of the vampire and you shut down an amazing show !! youtube has so many videos to try and save moonlight and tons of fans so please bring back moonlight !!!!!!!!!! everyone that watches one episode is hooked right away. i am sure that CBS can find room for this amazing show !!!!!!!!

Please brinng back Moonlight….huge numbers fan but boring now. Saw the actor who plas mick as a killer on Criminal Minds…disappointed he has bit parts rather than his show.

I’m from The Netherlands. I am soo terrible disappointed that there is not Season 2 coming. I really loved it. Why another season from Numbers or The Unit. Really think that we have to much series of the same kind. This was some thing really different, so romantic and so nice.

Moonlight was too good, too well acted (althought there were some twists and turns in the script), blood, violence and bad words were not running like a river like in most of the others shows….it had a gentle touch that was simply too good for the audience…so it must be cancelled…..isn’t it?

OMG!! no way!! i just bought the dvd series of moonlight! i was really hoping for season 2 of it.! i will surely miss it! its a bad decision for CBS!! not all their shows are a hit! MOONLIGHT is just at its starting point !! a group here from the Philippines wants moonlight season 2 !!!! PLEASE!!
I have just started watching Moonlight. A firend bought the entire series for my family and both myself and mother absolutely fell in love with it! We’ve been looking for a good vampire story and this one is beyond what we expected! Please make a second season! We’re only on the fifth episode and I can definately see myself wathing this over and over and over again! It’ll be torture to not have a second season! Is there absolutely no hope???
