As the ratings for FOX’s reality show On the Lot continue to slide downward, the network seems to be committed to finishing the competition. One who saw the writing on the wall early on was Chelsea Handler, the original host. The buzz was that Handler left the reality show to work on her new E! series Chelsea Lately. Apparently, there’s more to the story.
Handler admits “I quit that show because I smelled the disaster happening before it did. Absolutely God’s honest truth. I feel that was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Somebody said, ‘You can’t quit a Steven Spielberg show, you can’t quit a Mark Burnett production.’ Watch me, watch me quit… It was one [show] or the other, and after a while I realized I wasn’t in a show where I was really going to be able to be funny or have a good time.”
There are rumors that it was actually the producers’ idea to make the host change though her replacement, Adrianna Costa, hasn’t garnered much praise. The filmmaker competition is slated to finish its first (and likely only) season on August 14, 2007. Stay tuned!
I’m terribly disappointed to read that “On The Lot” may not have another season. I don’t watch many reality shows but this one was superior and if I could not watch it live I taped it. I’d like to see the show continue.
I like the show and have been really impressed with the quality of short films the contestant directors have been able to produce. In particular I like Adam’s work and Jasons (even though I don’t like Jason’s hip hop attitude).
As for the hostess, I think Adrianna Costa provides just the right combination of sex appeal and professionalism. As good as the movies are, without her the show would likely have lost me as a viewer.
Good job to all.
You know why this show is struggling? Two words…Carrie Fisher. How can someone stutter and stammer through a thought so often? Half the time I don’t know what the $@^%# she is saying. She has ZERO credibility. Gary Marshall, I like. He’s adds a humorous element. And most of the guest directors are OK. Suggest they dump Fisher and get someone else in there that can finish a thought!
The concept for On The Lot is great. I really enjoy the short films and the creative talent. I hope they make some changes and keep it.
DUMP Fisher!!
This show is so terrible. It is one big commercial for Verizon.
this is a great show, pretty much everyone i know loves to watch all the filmmakers shorts. i utterly love it.
