This may be the one problem that Ray Donovan can’t fix. Showtime has decided to cancel the Ray Donovan TV show, opting not to renew it for an eighth and final season.
Ray Donovan stars Liev Schreiber, Alan Alda, Zach Grenier, Jon Voight, Dash Mihok, Eddie Marsan, Pooch Hall, Kerris Dorsey, and Graham Rogers. The series centers on professional fixer Ray Donovan (Schreiber), who’s working to be the man his family needs him to be. While he makes progress with Dr. Amiot (Alda), there are dangers from the past that require the Ray Donovan of old. Between NYC mayor Ed Feratti (Grenier), an unrelenting NYPD officer hunting for the truth and clients old and new, Ray struggles to find the balance between fixing for clients and fixing himself. And when Feratti’s corruption brings a piece of Mickey’s past (Voight) back to New York, Ray is forced to seek answers to long-buried questions.
The seventh season of Ray Donovan averaged a 0.13 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 932,000 viewers. Compared to season six, that’s down by 21% in the demo and down by 3% in viewership.
During this year’s winter TCA press conference, Showtime boss Gary Levine suggested Ray Donovan could be coming to an end. He said, “I think Ray Donovan is nearing the end of its run. We always talked about seven or eight seasons. Nothing has been decided yet but it’s fair to say it is nearing the end.” Schreiber suggested that fans of Ray Donovan urge Showtime to renew the show for season eight.
“After seven incredible seasons, Ray Donovan has concluded its run on Showtime,” the cable channel said in a statement. “We are proud that the series ended amid such strong viewership and on such a powerful note. Our deepest thanks go to Liev Schreiber, Jon Voight, showrunner David Hollander and the entire cast and crew, past and present, for their dedicated work.”
The seventh season finale, which aired on January 19th, left viewers with a cliffhanger for a series finale.
What do you think? Are you a fan of the Ray Donovan TV show? Do you think that Showtime should have ordered an eighth season or, at least some sort of wrap up for the series?
I think there should definately be a season eight even if it was a short 6 episode season just to round up the cliffhangers from season 7
We need a season eight. After seven seasons, these actors and their fans need a real end to the show. How disappointing after watching every single episode.
I agree! Loved the show and would love for season 8 to wrap everything up for the fans of the show.
Showtime is Stupid taking a great show like Ray Donovan off and leaving some of the terrible shows on. Someone at Showtime please get some common sense and some brains and put Ray back on for a final season and do something right for a change.
I will be canceling my showtime subscription for sure after this as well. You can’t expect people to support a network when you pull stunts like this.
My hope is another network will pick it up to allow them to properly end the series.
Showtime will not have my support in any other series they bring out now, knowing how they pull them without ending them. Even a 5 episode final season to finish the story would be better than cutting it off like this
How could you cancel Ray Donovan without a final episode! I have watched every episode since it’s beginning. I know these people!! Am I supposed to decide what happens to end this fantastic series? Just when we are beginning to understand why Ray is the way that he is. Watching him work with Alan Alda and the flashbacks….COME ON!! At least let them come to a reasonable conclusion!!! I’m about to cancel Showtime! They pull this all the time. I know one thing, I won’t get involved with anymore series’. Maybe a movie that I can’t get on Netflix or… Read more »
Very upset! Love Ray Donovan & so sad to know it’s come to an end.
Please wrap up loose ends in Season 8 of Ray Donovan. Well liked by it’s followers.
I can’t believe that Ray Donovan was cacelled. After all the awards? Come on. Season 7 was good but there are too many storylines unfinished. One more season to close it out with all the questions answered. Let’s go out better than the Soprano did.
We are very upset. Loved the show. We will cancel Showtime if ray donovan doesn’t have an eighth season. Is one of the best shows on tv.. the Feichtl family
