CBS has cancelled its Scorpion TV show after four seasons. The season, which began with a musical episode, weill be this series’ swan song.
A CBS action drama, Scorpion stars Elyes Gabel, Katharine McPhee, Eddie Kay Thomas, Jadyn Wong, Ari Stidham, Robert Patrick, Riley B. Smith, Andy Buckley, Jamie McShane, Joshua Leonard, Dan Dratch, and Scott Porter. Inspired by a real-life computer expert, the series centers on Walter O’Brien (Gabel) and his team of brilliant misfits. Team Scorpion is the country’s last line of defense against lurking high-tech threats.
Scorpion: A Look at the Ratings
The fourth season of Scorpion is averaging a 0.81 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 5.26 million viewers. Compared to season three, that’s down by about 32% and down by 27%, respectively. By both measures, Scorpion is consistently among the lowest rated scripted CBS TV shows.
All told, today CBS cancelled two TV shows: Superior Donuts and Scorpion. The network also renewed five series: Criminal Minds (season 14); Man With a Plan (season three); Life in Pieces (season four); Instinct (season two); and Big Brother: Celebrity Edition (season two).
UPDATE: CBS has cancelled Kevin Can Wait and has renewed Elementary for season seven.
Deadline has confirmed the Scorpion cancellation.
What do you think? Did you think CBS would cancel or renew Scorpion for season five? Now that it’s over, did it end at the right time, or should the network have given it another season to wrap up? Sound off, in the comments.
I can’t believe they cancelled Scorpion! They definitely should have given it another season to wrap up all the plotlines. It was a great show. Solid writing, interesting stories and great actors. What a loss. This is the third time CBS has cancelled a favorite show prematurely. I’ll definitely keep that in mind as I contemplate their streaming subscription.
Season 4 ended horribly, if anything do an 1hr or 2hr long final episode that at least gets the team back together and so on. Every good story series always gets ended because there wasn’t enough ratings. I mean Jeez 5.26 million views is awesome. You have to account for each viewer is 2 to 4 people watching that episode. So if you think about it, that’s over 10 million people watching. Sad face
I love this show. I think that it should have run at least another full season to give them and the writers a chance to increase their ratings. It also needs a chance to end the show properly. It seems like any shows with actors are always getting cancelled but the reality shows stay on. And there have not been very many tv shows about intelligent people.
And people wonder why there is so much violence in the world today. This show rarely had violence and concentrated on humanity, helping those in need. There are way too many cop shows, tv reality and the like. As another viewer mentioned there are no shows where a family can get together and watch wholesome. Most shows aired in prime time have some sort of parental warning before the show starts, Scorpion didn’t. Scorpion is the 21st century version of “The Waltons”. Those in charge of programming at CBS should have enough courage to continue the show or at least… Read more »
PLEASE don’t cancel SCORPION!!!! One of the BEST program on!! One of my most FAVS!! So much junk out there but this series has real thought, mentality & creativity behind it!! Take the stupid stuff off not SCORPION!!
I think they should have given them one more season to wrap it off …
They should not cancel Scorpion. I was waiting for it to re-air. Too many unresolved areas. Change it back to 8 cst time. Bring it back.
Scorpion is an amazing show and I have loved it since the beginning. I don’t believe leaving it without a conclusion from the Season 4 finale is appropriate! Doing that is not fair to the fans or the amazing actors that make up the show. I was very much looking forward to the new season and am so disappointed by CBS’s decision.
Bring it back, please! Great show for intelligent people, not like other rubbish on tv. It was the only show I watched. Disappointed!
Agree! It was the only show I watched, too!! Most of the rest is junk!!
Why on this earth would Scorpion be canceled and stupid shows like Life in pieces, Elementary, Big Brother, and Instinct be renewed? My family is so disappointed to hear this news as this was the show that we all waited in front of the TV for on Monday nights. Sooooo very frustrated with CBS right now. The show had it all-comedy, drama and romance all rolled into one. Even my 6 yr. old granddaughter begged to stay up and watch Scorpion with us.
They need a season 5 they can’t leave it like that I love this show they could air it online or just on cbs all access please don’t leave it unfinished
All the good shows always get cancelled and they leave the stupid shows on that is why I am done with anymore series. They never finish them.
It should have been renewed. It was one of the five shows I regularly watched. We pay a lot to watch anything on TV these days, and reality shows, which I never watch, seem to be taking over. Is it because they don’t have to pay actors? Another night with nothing to look forward to watching. On the bright side, I do get a lot more reading done.
I love this show and was highly disappointed to hear about this. They should be allowed to do season 5 and wrap it up. I’m very upset!
Well, I could see it coming, sorry to say. They ended it all wrong, though. Shouldn’t have done a cliff-hanger when they basically knew they were going to cancel it. Would have been much more profitable to make the decision earlier and lead up to a big “series finale.” Of course, I have been becoming less and less enamored of CBS since they started going ppv, and can no longer seem to give credit where credit is due in the real world. This cancellation is just one less reason to watch CBS at all, since the rest of their fare… Read more »
I agree 100%!!!!!
