Although the Supergirl TV lost a lot of ground last year, it remained a top-five performer for The CW in the Nielsen ratings. Now that it’s back for a fourth season, can this TV series soar to new heights? Will Supergirl be cancelled or renewed for season five? Stay tuned. *Status update below.
Based on the DC Comics character, Supergirl stars Melissa Benoist, Mehcad Brooks, Chyler Leigh, Jeremy Jordan, David Harewood, Katie McGrath, and Jesse Wrath. The CW action-adventure centers on Kara Zor-El (Benoist), the cousin of Kal-El, i.e. Superman (Tyler Hoechlin). To remain safe from Krypton’s destruction, Kara grew up on Earth, as Kara Danvers, a human. For years, she kept her powers a secret. Now, as an adult, she works at CatCo Worldwide Media and also for the Department of Extra-Normal Operations (DEO), a super-secret government organization whose mission is to keep National City – and the Earth – safe from sinister threats.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
5/20 update: You can see the latest night’s ratings in context.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
For comparisons: The third season of Supergirl on The CW averaged a 0.51 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 1.835 million total viewers (Live+SD).
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you like the Supergirl TV series? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a fifth season on The CW?
*1/31/19 Update: The CW has renewed the Supergirl TV show for a fifth season. Details here.
Sorry but supergirl is trash. Hopefully jeremy jordan (Winn) left this show. He wasted on supergirl the guy sit on chair and making jokes

All the shows were renewed for a another season but Arrow is only getting 10 episodes next season
I think the series was better in season 3. I miss the romance with Mon-El and the humor that was very apparent in that season. I think they made a BIG mistake going in the direction they’re going. I really don’t even watch it much anymore. What a shame.
Please cancel this show…
Happy Supergirl was renewed for a 5th season.
Renew supergirl..
jeremy jordan was the only reason i watched this tv show . and now people can see show is so lame . looks like video game
Not doing anything for me watched the cross overs and it was nothing like the comics. They make Superman look week and Lois Lane plot was bad. I did like the 1st season after that it got stupid. I stopped watching basically all the superheroes and thought watching the cross over would get me back in but it did not. I hate to see how they do in crisis were Supergirl dies or are they going to kill Superman why not he got his ass kicked in the hole cross over. Like Superman said you are stronger then me world… Read more »
Renew Supergirl! It’s one of my favorite superhero TV shows in the world!
My favorite too. Best show on TV.
I agree with you Louise..
Naw its too PC. All they talk about is girl power this and gays and trans that ect… Can i just just watch a Good Super hero show?
Mine too
Cancel Supergirl. Invest in better shows.
Supergirl is the best show on TV
The ratings say otherwise.
the writing this season is just horrible. They have shown over and over that Earth is defenseless against these aliens without the help from other aliens, and then try to make it seem unresonable tht the human population would turn anti-alien even after finding out the president was illegally elected by impersonating a human. Throw in the agenda of pushing the gay/trangender agenda and the show has become unwatchable. Stop trying to push political agendas and go back to good ole story telling. But this fan has stopped watching. PS I won’t be watching batgirl either based on the same… Read more »
It’s Batwoman, not Batgirl, but agreed with the rest, sort of. Not particularly with the “gay agenda”, unless you’re referring to how social justice storyline surrounding Alex’s coming out, instead of just letting her be gay…? But agreed with the… Other agenda.
Exactly what i was tryna say but they dont get it.
Never wanted a show to get cancelled more in my life. Im a huge superman fan, and ill watch anything involving the house of El. But im also a conservative, and i dont expect or want my superhero shows to get political. Even if it agrees with me. But being told by supergirl that im a racist bigot doesnt sit well with me. Especially when im not. Supergirl should be teaching love and exceptance not dividing people. And honestly should stick to fighting criminals and space aliens, not telling me how to vote. It also sacrifices story for said politics.… Read more »
If you aren’t a racist bigot why would you think the show is saying you are a racist bigot? And Nicole Maines really is transgender. But why should it matter? Gay actors play straight people all the time. It’s called acting. And what does a character on another show have to do with Supergirl? On Supergirl Alex was given an extensive story dealing with her coming out. Why are you blaming Supergirl for something done on another show?
Huh. I really assumed he was saying that that was the case on Supergirl (not Legends), that they get all socio-political, and supposedly “demand” people to support LGB characters. Because, whether it’s political, or social justice BS, it’s all the same. And Supergirl is the one known for being overly political. There’s obviously nothing wrong with a character JUST being gay / bi, having romance storylines (which I assumed was what Jeffro was praising Legends for, at first), without bringing either into it, though. Much preferred, actually. Oh and, yes, JeffroSamurai, it’s LGB, not LGBTQWTFBBQ. Men cannot become women, and… Read more »
Couldn’t agree more!.Even tho I’m a fan of Melissa benoist I have stopped watching this crap
H,I ON HERE FIRST
Actually according to Variety.com, the season premier of Supergirl had a total of 2.6 million viewers. Please change what you have to make it accurrate. You forgot to add in the Live+7. https://variety.com/2018/tv/ratings/live-plus-7-ratings-oct-8-manifest-1202990062/
These are live + same day ratings. While the networks like to tout delayed viewing numbers, they get paid for c+3 ratings (commercial viewing within three days). C+3 ratings are not generally available but, when I have seen them, I have found they are pretty similar to the live + same day ratings. The c+3 ratings are sometimes even lower. This is because when peoples record shows to watch later, they typically skip commercials. Hope that helps.
And yet, entitled, ungrateful audiences still like to BOAST that they skip commercials, while demanding networks and advertisers to look at DVR ratings.
Also, they really love their precious trendy Netflix, where they pay money to watch, rather than watch it for free over the air.
Then again, Nielsen ratings are all inaccurate anyway, they represent only a tiny fraction of the entire population.
Eh, Why the heck should I have to both pay for access to their content, and then be forced to sit through over 30+ .15+ sec comercials per hour long episode? No, I already pay nearly $300 for access through Direct TV. Screw them for trying to make me sit through as many comcercials that equal more then a forth of the length of the show i’m watching. Screw double dipping.
