NBC isn’t staying friends with The Enemy Within. The network has cancelled the freshman drama series so there won’t be a second season coming for 2019-20.
A psychological thriller, The Enemy Within stars Jennifer Carpenter, Morris Chestnut, Raza Jaffrey, Kelli Garner, Cassandra Freeman, and Noah Mills. The character-based drama centers on former CIA operative and now infamous traitor Erica Shepherd (Carpenter) and FBI Agent Will Keaton (Chestnut). In order to apprehend a looming threat, Keaton must tap Shepherd’s expertise, even though she’s serving a life sentence in a supermax prison.
The first season of The Enemy Within averaged a 0.74 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.40 million viewers. The defacto series finale aired on May 20th.
Compared to the other scripted NBC TV shows of the 2018-19 season, the series ranks 10th in the demo and seventh in total viewers. Based on the rankings, it would seem like the series would be renewed but the ratings trended downward as the season progressed. Considering that The Enemy Within had The Voice as a lead-in, NBC execs were likely not satisfied with the show’s low retention rate either.
Today, the Peacock Network also cancelled The Village and Abby’s TV shows.

I cannot believe that NBC have decided to cancel one of the most gripping shows on TV!
I was hooked from episode one, the thrilling, edge of your seat, psychological thriller was unlike anything that has been on TV, since Stalker (which too was cancelled after the first season).
Why cancel a show that people love?

Foolish move NBC. Cancelling this series was foolish. It was entertaining & unpredictable, a rarity on television these days. I’m very disappointed as I finally found a show I enjoyed & looked forward to
I am very disappointed. This was a top rate series. I agree with every body else: why must we bear with the longevity of mundane mediocrity, while something truly good gets passed over. My husband nailed it ever so succinctly: “It just wasn’t stupid enough!”
I am so disappointed. I have watched very little of prim time in the past 7 years. The Enemy within I caught and decided to watch one time. I was hooked. I’m so done with prime time tv.
NBC. All I can say is you suck. Let’s put another stupid reality show on or how about another dumb game show on that nobody cares about. You are all the same. You put these new shows on that we get interested in and you cancel them and leave these stupid shows on we should just exercise and forget it. Quit wasting our time. I can’t stand you
Of course tv show we love is cancelled…Stupid things stay on and on and on, but this very good thriller was so good, it is cancelled. Why bother with these tv channel, better forget them whatever they propose, we love, they cancel. Yé Netflix, Yé other than tv channels now!
Hated you canceled the enemy within. I looked forward to it every single week. Surely you could have done better to keep it on!!!!
Please Don’t cancel The Enemy Within. It’s a terrific show.
I’m pretty sure the reason it’s been canceled, is because there’s too much similarity between it and real- life happenings within the government. The government doesn’t want us knowing or thinking anything more than we already do. Don’t insult our intelligence mr. Government, there’s no other reason why it would be canceled. There’s shows out there with FAR MORE lower ratings, and THEY haven’t been canceled. So for all you citizens out there with ignorance, this is the real reason they want no more of the show aired…smh
I love this show so much. I didn’t find it right away, but I’ve been binge watching and relishing each new episode. In my quest to find out whether or not it’s being renewed and whether or not to further invest myself in the remainder of the season, I am sad to learn that it has not been picked up for a second one. I think that NBC has made a very unwise choice.
Another great show cancelled, what is wrong with the Peacock? I was glued to my tv watching Shepherd doing what she still does best, solving the FBI problems. Please reconsider and bring this show back or someone else pick it up. I will post to everyone this is a must see tv show to help get the audience this show deserves. Or maybe someone else will pick it up.
I can’t believe this show was cancelled! My husband and I were glued to our seats watching this series!!! Every time we find a show we both like, it ends up getting cancelled. NBC gave up too soon on this show. I sure hope another network picks it up!!!
Best nbc show.. The enemy within…. Tired of all the reality and talk shows… but guess NBC just keeps re doing the same old same old shows.
The Enemy Within was an excellent show. Should have given them another season to try to gain more audience.
I don’t understand why The Village was cancelled. It was a great show. Touching on real life issues.
