The eighth season of The Haves and the Have Nots just kicked off on OWN this week. While the series hasn’t been cancelled, it seems like the Tyler Perry drama is coming to an end in 2021 and won’t have a ninth season.
Airing on Tuesday nights, The Haves and the Have Nots stars John Schneider, Tika Sumpter, Angela Robinson, Renee Lawless, Crystal Fox, Peter Parros, Tyler Lepley, Gavin Houston, and Aaron O’Connell. The drama centers on the complicated dynamic between the Cryer, Harrington, and Young families of Savannah, Georgia. In season eight of this drama series, Judge Cryer (Schneider) and his rich friends are all finding out what happens when personal flaws go unchecked. Karma has not been kind to the elite one-percenters.
The eighth season of The Haves and the Have Nots currently averages a 0.10 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 873,000 viewers. Compared to season seven, that’s down by 60% in the demo and down by 34% in viewership. The series was once the cable channel’s highest-rated show but the premiere’s numbers put it much closer to the bottom of the list. Is it time for the show to end?
New York Post recently ran a profile about Robinson under the title “Haves and Have Nots star breaks down its final season”. The article goes on to confirms that the series is ending by noting “It kicks off its final season Tuesday at 8 p.m. on the cable network.” and “Robinson tells fans to expect the final season of The Haves and Have Nots to be an emotional rollercoaster.”
But wait, hasn’t the cast already filmed a ninth season? Maybe not.
In 2019, Houston said that he was about to start filming the ninth season of the series. The season lengths for this series have been very inconsistent — ranging from nine to 44 episodes a season — so, OWN could have changed their plans about how the episodes would be grouped.
OWN has been quiet about the show’s immediate future. However, Perry’s other shows on the channel have already ended. In 2017, Perry signed a deal to produce 90 episodes of television each year for ViacomCBS outlets (including BET and BET+) so that’s been keeping him very busy.
It’s unclear how many episodes in season eight but hopefully, The Haves and the Have Nots will have a satisfying conclusion.

I agree it’s time to go. The show has become redundant. He takes to long to get to the point. Tyler Perry is not a very good writer anymore. It seems as though all of his shows take to long to get to the point. And every show there is too many sexual scenes.

He’s like the best writee! You nuts? He’s got several things going at the same time. Never a dull moment . An hour show seems like it lasts about 30 40 minutes. Then you have to wait till next week. And I do. How he has these all interacting is awesome. Some people don’t appreciate a GREAT WRITER I guess.
I agree. There are too many story lines that are never finished. The newer actors are terrible, but you have to give Tyler credit for creating jobs for his people.

I agree on the massive sexual gay scenes. Not homophobic but it’s an overkill. I admire Tyler Perry so much that I can’t criticize his geniuses. He just took on to much; simply hire writers. There are so many that could and would do a great job so let them do the writing . This was an excellent show that lost its meaning . The Veronica saga was much to much and killed it fir me. Please cancel this show..the writing is bad ..the acting is bad. Story lines are weak..and far fetched.
I enjoyed it in the beginning but all of the explicit sex scenes took away from the show. I know Hollywood says sex sells, but sometimes not being a part of the “pact” is what create the true trailblazer. I just wanted great TV
I’ve watched Haves and Have Nots since the beginning. I’ve loved it in every way since then. Over the last 2 seasons, the storylines havent made sense and connected any dots to conclude other open storylines. I miss the tough talk, interaction and high society acting from the beginning. We all know there are problems in elite circles, but the show didnt have to become all about that. I’ll miss it, but it may be time to call Cut.
Please keep THAHNs on air. My husband and I luv the show and cannot wait until Tuesday nights to watch a new episode.

It’s been a great run and they have grown tremendously from their beginning. Unfortunately the last couple of years the writing was poor. Stories dragged on entirely too long. Sad to see it leave but I checked out after season six. The cast will have a promising future I hope because they’re very talented. Great job Tyler!!!
