The chances of a sixth season renewal have disappeared for The Magicians. Syfy has revealed that the current fifth season will also be the show’s last.
The Magicians stars Stella Maeve, Olivia Taylor Dudley, Hale Appleman, Arjun Gupta, Summer Bishil, Rick Worthy, Jade Tailor, Brittany Curran, and Trevor Einhorn. The series follows a group of friends as they discover their magical abilities and ward off evil creatures who threaten to destroy the magical world they’ve come to know. In season four, magic was saved with Quentin Coldwater giving his life to save his friends and the world. In year five, there’s too much magic and, as the excess builds, an apocalypse looms.
The fifth season of The Magicians averages a 0.11 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 341,000 viewers. Compared to season four, that’s down by 44% in the demo and down by 37% in viewership.
Eight episodes of the current season’s 13 installments have aired thus far. The de facto series finale is expected to run on Wednesday, April 1st. While the season’s finale was not planned to end the show, word is that it was written so that it could also serve as The Magicians’ last episode.
“The Magicians has been a part of our Syfy family for five fantastic seasons,” Syfy said in a statement to Deadline. “As we near the end of this journey, we want to thank John McNamara, Sera Gamble, Henry Alonso Myers, Lev Grossman, and our entire brilliant cast, crew, writers, and directors for their beautiful creation. But most of all, we thank the fans for their tremendous support and passion. Because of you, magic will be in our hearts forever.”

This is typical of the SCFY channel to dump a another great show. They did the same thing on the Expanse series and several others. The Magicians was a great show with an untapped story line. The only reason I watched this channel. I sense the blow back on this move will be huge. Complain to the Network !!!! Hopefully Amazon or Netflix will see this opportunity and pick it up.
If SyFy was planning to end it, why wasn’t the show ending written. Why just leave everyone hanging? It makes me not want to watch ANY TV show. Maybe Netflix will pick it up. It was a good show! Why, SyFy??
I cannot understand why a television show that is interesting, intelligent, entertaining, well acted, with a fabulous story line, should be cancelled because of some obviously incorrect rating system.
This was the best program on television .

you are right, its because they still use the outdated “tv ratings” system, it may have had bad ratings on tv but it was definitely popular online. hopefully a streaming service, like netflix, amazon or one of the others will pick it up.
Really hoping that more people want season 6… the show has only glimpsed into the underworld… season 6 could bring Quinton back to call for help in the afterlife… while also showing the new world in development
Please Sci-fi, reconsider your decision to cancel this show. Sometimes hope, like this show provides to those of us who are different, is worth more than a bottom line. Please don’t end something so priceless. Plus, it was my only reason to watch the network. Hopefully, Netflix will come to the rescue!

Hopefully it’s an April fools joke…. that would be so appropriate for this show. If not it’s very sad 🙁 but all good things must come to an end. What a fabulous fun show the characters they will be missed!!
It’s apparent that Hollywood does not know what real people love! The magicians has been the best show on television thus far! Why is it that the Hollywood Machine can never get it right? Perhaps the way the ratings are compiled are far from accurate and Hollywood should be asking a broader audience, people like me, who have lived for this show for the past 5 years how WE feel!! The people who cancel these excellent programs,wouldn’t know what an excellent program was if a rabbit dropped into their lap and told them so! I am hoping the smarter format… Read more »
Loved the show and very disappointed no season 6. Worst April Fool’s joke ever! Other shows have gone on to other networks. Anybody? All hail Queen Margo.
