This season, ABC has delayed the premiere of The Rookie until midseason, which means the show will likely have fewer episodes once again (season six had just 10 installments because of the 2023 industry strikes). Is this a sign that the series is coming to an end? Will The Rookie be cancelled or renewed for season eight? Stay tuned.
A police drama series, The Rookie TV show stars Nathan Fillion, Mekia Cox, Alyssa Diaz, Richard T. Jones, Melissa O’Neil, Eric Winter, Jenna Dewan, Shawn Ashmore, and Lisseth Chavez. In the story, John Nolan (Fillion) is a middle-aged divorced man from Pennsylvania who owns a construction company. He gives up his old life to pursue a new career as a police officer in the Los Angeles Police Department. He graduates from the Police Academy, is the oldest rookie on the force, and eventually becomes a training officer. He works with Sergeant Wade Grey (Jones), Detective Angela Lopez (Diaz), training officers Nyla Harper (Cox) and Tim Bradford (Winter), undercover officer Lucy Chen (O’Neil), and enthusiastic rookie Celina Juarez (Chavez).
Nielsen Ratings
The Nielsen ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s chances of staying on the air. The higher the ratings, the better the chances of survival. This chart is updated as new ratings data becomes available.
5/14 update: You can see the latest night’s ratings in context.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
For comparisons: Season six of The Rookie on ABC averaged a 0.31 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 3.30 million viewers.
Note: These are the final national ratings, including all live+same day viewing and DVR playback (through 3:00 AM). While these numbers don’t include further delayed or streaming viewing, they are a very good indicator of how a show is performing, especially when compared to others on the same channel. There can be other economic factors involved in a show’s fate, but typically the higher-rated series are renewed and the lower-rated ones are cancelled.

Season 7 The Agent of Chaos: I enjoyed the show the best I could but the production values were horrible! Neither my wife nor I could hear about half of the dialog because the back ground music was so STUPIDLY overwhelming LOUD!!!!!! Had to rewind numerous times to try to figure out what the cast was saying. The production was disgusting enough that I wrote this bad review. I don’t know if it was the show or the chanel, but whoever fornicated this episode to this degree need firing! The show itself is adequate. It is nowhere near the quality… Read more »
Great show all around. They always bring in a new Rookie into the cast either for a short time or longer which is why I don’t see the title The Rookie solely being around Nathan Fillion aka John Nolan just b/c he started the show off as one when they bring in new Rookie into the cast. Just saying…
Love this show! Best crime drama on TV with a fantastic cast. Interesting story lines and not filled with sex and bedroom scenes but love interests to follow. Love Bradford and Chen. Don’t cancel this show!
It’s actually a great show. Keep it going, not to mention, that the lead is a Canadian.

I love the Rookie and hope it stays.
I love this show, but Nathan Fillion seemed a bit tired in it.
Great first episode for the season. I’ve been watching the reruns on Lifetime. Interesting seeing the things I missed the first time around.
Glad it is back on!
