The X-Files aired the finale for the mini-series revival on FOX last night, and the finale ended with Mulder’s life in the balance and a huge cliffhanger. Is there a season 11 already in the works for The X-Files?
Chris Carter spoke about the cliffhanger ending and the possibility of another season of The X-Files after the episode aired, and there is a chance that fans of the series could see another season pop up on FOX.
In an interview with TV Insider, Carter said the following about the chances of another season:
“I know where this goes in my mind. And so, it wasn’t just a cliffhanger without a clear idea of where we go. That said, even though I had a conversation with [Fox boss] Dana Walden today, talking about doing more episodes, I think the question is how to get it done.”
Carter has always expressed an interest to continue the franchise on FOX, but it has always been an issue of scheduling for David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson.
The series introduced new characters that could carry the story forward, but that would be an entirely different series.
Carter teased more about the possibility of another season to TV Line:
“I can tell you this: Fox owns this show. I can’t imagine, with the ratings that we’ve got and the way we ended this season, that there won’t be more X-Files. They will find a way to get that done. Because I spoke about it briefly with [Fox CEO] Dana Walden today, so there’s an appetite there and… a chance certainly to find how we’re gonna get ourselves off this precipice.”

This show was a gem of a show from season 1 to 9. Definitely would watch and record. Please dont cliff hang us again….:)
a season 11 is a must for the X-Files series ! If it were to end in this manner it might as well be called the ‘Soprano Files’ , with that finale.

Yes, I watched the season finale, and yes, I would like there to be a season 11, especially since this one had only a few episodes. What really surprised me about these episodes was that after all this time they were all so well written and so well-acted. It reminded me of a time when television had quality shows. Please bring back X-Files!

I was a bit disappointed in this season and ending. The most unbelievable aspect of the season finale was how Scully was able to drive through DC traffic. Sidewalk or not, there’s no way she could navigate from downtown DC to the bridge through a mass of humanity. Coming in second was the convaluted time frame for PCRing the DNA (likely accomplished due to a time warp?) and how calm the public was in a near societal collapse. Really, no rioting? And the one rioter stopped because Scully said so? The stories may be unbelieveable, but let’s keep the science… Read more »
Season 11? Yes, please. I just hope Fox will give a go ahead for season 12.
Come on, Fox. You got to renew The X Files for a 11th season.

I loved the episode with the lizard man. It was so funny

And I loved the new twists in the main story about the aliens/conspiracy main story!

The chemistry between Duchovny and Anderson is apparent and the supporting cast both original and new are good. If the roles of Fox and Scully are re-cast, I think it is a “toss-up” if it would maintain the interest this current story and staff enjoy. I would like to see this story with this cast continue.
I think they would create new characters. They can’t recast Mulder & Scully after 10 seasons.
I hope to live to see the 10,000 season. Love this show. Chris Carter is a God.
OMG yes, of course we want another season. Was really glad to see Lauren Ambrose on TV again.
This could clearly be a new beginning to the HUMAN race. I always suspected a connection to other worlds in our background, “DNA”.
