TV show description:
A single-camera comedy, this TV show revolves around three trouble-making teachers at Smoots High School. They are played by the series’ creators: Adam Cayton-Holland, Andrew Orvedahl, and Ben Roy.
A Spanish teacher and self-proclaimed bon vivant, Loren Payton (Adam Cayton-Holland) grew up in an affluent area of Denver and was afforded the opportunity to travel to Spain as a young adult. It’s there that he studied the Queen’s Spanish, the dialect he now teaches to his mostly Mexican students at Smoot High. He enjoys mountain climbing and getting Chipotle with his boys.
A former all-star student at his own high school, Andy Fairbell (Andrew Orvedahl) naturally became a teacher himself. As the resident gym teacher, health teacher, and JV girls’ volleyball coach, Fairbell believes he’s Smoot’s alpha-male. His indeterminate but highly speculative sexual orientation baffles his co-workers.
Billy Shoemaker (Ben Roy) is a loud-mouthed, tattooed, angry history teacher who spent much of his life touring with Capitalist Emulsification, Denver’s pre-eminent post-punk speed bludgeon band. He and his wife, Tampa, have one son.
With an insuppressible passion for life, Abbey Logan (Maria Thayer) has tried many careers, but she is currently working as Smoot High’s librarian while in-between “opportunities.” She wasn’t popular in high school, but doesn’t consider herself “damaged,” and believes her past has nothing to do with her recent divorce or her crippling sugar addiction.
More inept than the kids they teach, these teachers are out to beat the system as they struggle to survive each day — on their own terms.
Episode #35 — Yes We Scan
With the school in danger of being shut down, the gang hatches a plan to save the day. Meanwhile, Quinn and Tammy embark on a drug-fueled vision quest.
First aired: April 8, 2019.
