Hostages: Has the CBS Show Been Cancelled?

Hostages on CBS canceled?CBS has just released details about the two hour finale of Hostages but refer to it as just a “season finale” instead of a “series finale.” Does that mean that the “limited series” is coming back for a second season?

On Hostages, Toni Collette plays Ellen Sanders, a doctor who’s set to perform a fairly rudimentary surgical procedure on the President (James Naughton). When a group of men (led by Dylan McDermott) invade her home and take her family hostage, she’s faced with a lose-lose decision. If she doesn’t cause the President to die on the operating table, the terrorists will kill her family. The cast also includes Rhys Coiro, Billy Brown, Sandrine Holt, Tate Donovan, Quinn Shephard, and Mateus Ward.

The Monday night drama got off to a mediocre start in the ratings, drawing a 1.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 7.41 million total viewers. In week two, the numbers fell more than 16% and they’ve essentially kept falling ever since. Last month, it hit a new low with a 1.0 demo rating and 4.5 million viewers.

The network touted Hostages as a “limited series” from the start but, had the show been a success, they surely would have found a way to bring it back in some form.

How? Well, we don’t need to worry about that. Unfortunately for fans of the show, there’s virtually no chance that CBS will bring Hostages back next year. The ratings are just too low.

Hopefully, the producers knew the show won’t be back and have prepared a very satisfying ending.

[Possible Spoiler:] The two-hour season (series) finale airs on January 6th at 9pm. The episodes are titled “Suspicious Minds” and “Endgame” and are described this way: “After Duncan discovers Sandrine’s betrayal, he decides to use her to save Nina and Sawyer. Also, just before Ellen is to operate on the President, the First Lady confronts her and forces Ellen to tell the truth about the assassination plot.”

What do you think? Do you like Hostages? Do you think it should be brought back somehow? Why do you think that more people didn’t tune in?

I absolutely loved the Hostages. It is as good or better than “The BlackList”. I usually recorded both shows and watched them both on another night because I have to get up really early for my job. Please consider bringing back the HOSTAGES!!!!

Brilliant show, it should continue, good actors and storyline. All my friends watch it. It’s not for the wannabe’s or for the teens. Great performances, was keenly anticipating the second series. Rate it in the same league as, House of Cards.

I hope they will bring the show back in some form. Just like any new TV series, people have to actuary watch it. But seriously, it’s good, I was hooked from the very first episode. I don’t know what they could possibly do in another season, but I’d watch it. I loved it. Keep it going! You guys did an awesome job! Thanks for the show if you don’t decide to do another season

I do not understand why you cancelled HOSTAGES, it was a great show, only
problem you had it scheduled opposite THE BLACKLIST on NBC. You should
cancel some of those stupid vulgar “comedy” shows in primetime and add shows
    with quality for grown-ups

We DVR’d the entire season and had a marathon to catch up! What a great show! Couldn’t sleep after watching it because I had to see more! Intense twists and turns. We can’t get enough. It would be a shame if it was cancelled due to poor ratings- which I feel is due to poor promotion of the series. They should run the series again with better advertising. I need more!!!

We thought the show was great. It will be a shame if they cancel this show. There are some awful shows on TV and they take off the ones that are good. They should bring back this show for sure. We watched a show called the Practice that Dylan McDermott was in and that is one reason we decided to watch Hostage. We thought the cast that was put together was very good. Hope you bring it back.

I would love to have another season of “Hostages”. To me it was really a good show with good writing. The acting was great and I actually loved the chemistry between all the characters! They really started growing on my that I started to bond with them! I hope they change there minds and give it another season. I would love to see Duncan and the crew back. By the way, I love how the dog came back at the end. That was great!! Bring it back!!!

If prime time is an issue: Make another season and put it in the slot of two and half men and let people DVR it and run replays on weekends. I don’t know how a network could take a good show off and leave a god awful show run for so long after the kids grown and Charlie sheen had gone off the deep end.
