The cast and crew of 24 have completed shooting the final season of the FOX action series.
While the 24 series was innovative when it first began, eight years later it just doesn’t feel the same. Star Kiefer Sutherland explains, “It’s a very, very difficult show to write.” Normally executive producer Howard Gordon will come up with a great idea for the following season midway through the current season, but this season, “he just wasn’t feeling it.” Gordon felt the FOX series, about the life of special agent Jack Bauer, should end right here and that they should be making feature films about the character instead.
While Bauer’s life plays out slowly, with each hour seen in real time, it hasn’t played out behind the scenes the same way. Throughout these eight years, Sutherland notes that between the crew and cast, which has starred Mary Lynn Rajskub, Cherry Jones, Carlos Bernard, Elisha Cuthbert, Dennis Haysbert, and Kim Raver, there have been sixteen marriages and thirty-something children born (not to mention Sutherland spending time in prison for a DUI arrest). They’re very much a family, making it difficult to say goodbye.
Not that it’s the end altogether for this collaboration of talent, which has seen a total of 18 Emmys in its time. We’ll see Bauer and friends again in the not too distance future in a feature film. It won’t be completely the same, however, as the movie won’t play out in real time like the series has. This will open up the possibilities of what Jack Bauer will be able to do.
For the 24 TV show though, it’s time to say goodbye.
The last few hours of Bauer’s life on the series will be a little different than usual. There’s not a massive crisis going on, as Sutherland explains, “It’s a much more personal ending.” Chloe (Rajskub) has to go after Jack, going against his wishes, which in all this time she’s never done before. She’s put in a position of power and has to deal with making decisions she’s never had to before, and so sets out to find him and confront him.
Rajskub guarantees it will be “pretty explosive.” Recalling her final day of shooting, the actress says, “When they said, ‘Cut!’, I don’t know what I was thinking. And then they said, ‘This is Mary Lynn’s series wrap.’ And I just looked around. The crew was surrounding me. And I just kind of burst into tears.”
You can catch the season finale of 24 on FOX, fittingly enough, on May 24th.
What do you think? Will you tune in to watch the 24 series finale?

This is one show that I will greatly miss. I am looking forward to seeing the movie. Keifer Sutherland really played the part.
Definitely the best show since La Femme Nikita. Jack Bauer and Michael Samuel are very similar, I love them to death. I still miss LFN, and I’ll 24 also.
I can’t believe FOX is ending the show as it is the best on TV. I have been watching the show faithfully since its beginning and it will be missed. I wish the cast all the best!
I too really enjoy this show and I am very sad to see it end. I have to disagree with a couple of the posts that think that Jack will be killed off. I don’t think this will happen especially if they are going to make a “24” movie. Jack Bauer is “24”. They would be no sense in a movie if Jack wasn’t in it.
I have very mixed feelings about the final 2 hour episode. I don’t want this show to end but I want to see how they wrap it up.
Love Jack, Love Keifer, Love the show. Cannot wait until the movie comes out!
I am a true diehard fan of “24” and am truly going to miss it on Monday nights. I am hoping that Jack is not killed in the end and am anxiously awaiting the movie. I am and always have been so “into” 24 that my husband constantly reminds me that it is “just a tv show” and not real!! It is just THAT GOOD!! Best wishes to all the cast and crew for a job well done! I am seeking a support group for “withdrawal from 24”!!
My time is greatly valued however Monday’s and 24 go hand in hand and my calendar will miss that date night. I was always been a Sutherland. Donald you have done well Keiffer is an attribute to the movie industry. Goodbye to a phenominal group of actors.
I too enjoyed the show emensely, and will miss it. Best to all the cast and the recurring characters,,
Wish them the BEST . Great show . Hope the movie is better than the other big forgotten show . you know about those aliens .
I am so bummed about this show ending. It is the only show I faithfully watch and have watched for the last 8 years. The first episode hooked me and I have always hated when the season ended. I own all but the 7th and 8th seasons, but will be getting those so that my son who is now interested at 10 can watch them. Fox has never before had a show as well done as this one. The only one to come close was Prison Break and they ended that well before they should have. No other reason to… Read more »
I hate to see it all end. There’s not much to choose from on TV any more and this was one of the few I looked forward to watching. Can’t wait for the movie/movies. Hope they can get most of the original cast for the movie.
GREAT show, and in 8 years I have never missed an episode and dont lan on it now. Although I TRUELY hate to see the show end I look forward to the movie coming out!! This show is AWESOME and the cast is the best, I wish you all the best and look forward to seeing you again in something else.
now there’s NO reason to ever watch FOX again! what an asinine decision! jackasses!
I can’t believe that this fantastic show is ending. I am a diehard fan. This is and always will be the best show on TV. Good bye old friend. You will be missed.
I wouldn’t miss it!!! I hate the show is ending. It is one of the best shows on TV. I can’t believe how fast an hour goes by every week. I just hope you haven’t killed Jack. I hope he finds happiness and, if possible, leads a normal life.
I know how you feel….it is a great show and will be missed. Unfortunately, after seeing Monday’s episode, I have a sinking feeling about Jack finding a happy ending or normal life. I think, and I hope I’m wrong, they are going to kill him.
