Last season, ABC launched 10 new scripted series. They cancelled six of them and renewed four. How will the alphabet network perform during the 2016-17 season? Stay tuned!
There’s lots of data that network execs looks at when deciding whether to renew or cancel a TV series but ratings are the major ingredient. These charts will be updated daily, as new ratings data becomes available.

A couple of notes about these charts:
These figures are updated automatically as new ratings are released. The averages are based on the final national numbers (live plus same day viewing), unless marked with an asterisk (*). For technical reasons, I have to resort them manually so feel free to let me know if I missed something.
Keep in mind that the demo numbers are typically what’s most important to advertisers. Therefore, that’s how the networks measure success. Advertisers pay more for ad time on a show that has a higher demo rating. Because older viewers don’t count? No, it’s because younger viewers watch less traditional TV and are harder to reach.
Demo numbers are typically reported using the 10ths decimal place (2.4, for example). In the averages, I’m using an extra decimal for easier ranking. The networks take into account when shows air on Fridays and Saturdays, nights when TV viewership is lower.
What do you think? Are you surprised by any of the ratings? Which shows should be doing better? Which one do you think will be cancelled next?
Well said Laurie, Teri, and so many others who enjoy Last Man Standing ! We feel the same way. Please explain the chart and the viewers numbers listed in the the 3rd column, because it looks to me like according to your “viewer number millions”column for Last Man Standing, it had more viewers than may of the other shows that were renewed and you had moved it to Friday night to try to kill it. Says one thing loud and clear that it was a politically motivated move by ABC/ Disney. Just doesn’t add up if there were more “viewers… Read more »
Read the charts again. LMS is only 16th in the ratings on ABC and virtually every show ranked below it was cancelled. The info is on the page & clear as day, low ratings, cancelled.
Read the chart. LMS was just 16th on the network in ratings (key ad demo) and almost every program rated at that point or lower was cancelled. In fact, in 6 seasons LMS nevef finished even in The Top 30 in total viewers or Top 50 in key demo ratings.
I cannot believe you are even considering cancelling “Last Man Standing!” This household is now done with ABC! Not everyone one is sympathetic to your leftist agenda. Hopefully your ratings/ advertising monies will suffer! The Silent Majority will turn you off!
Las Man Standing is huge and brings in millions of viewers. But it doesn’t follow the liberal left point of view and therefore, it needs to be cancelled. Who are the elitists???
Uhh…they are the conservstive business men running ABC. The network doesnt own the show, they have to pay license fees to air it & get little benefit from streaming & syndication revenue which goes to the owners. ABC needs ad revenue to make money. LMS is on pace to finish 16th JUST ON ABC in key ad demo ratings (overall they are 55th) and they nowhere near the Top 30 in total viewers. In 6 seasons, LMS has never finished in The Top 30 in viewers or Top 50 in key ad demo ratings. That means LMS doesnt generate much… Read more »
No that was the old regime at ABC. Who ever is top brass now is definitely a Dem. GMA is a prime example. They have George Stephanopolous as an anchor and he goes after any conservative or republican guest with gusto, even cutting them off mid sentence if he doesn’t like what they are saying. GMA was actively supporting Hillary during the election. News should be neutral..
ABC – despite good ratings you’re cancelling Last Man Standing?? I’m sure the real reason is because the show is not Left leaning. I can put that show on, do t have to worry about my grandchildren seeing inappropriate content or hearing inappropriate language. I realize that you, ABC do not care however as for my family, this cancellation means YOURcancellation. I will no longer view ANY ABC programming. I only hope that another network picks up this show.
I don’t care for sitcoms of any type and so this is among them.
Agents of Shield is a great show, kind of lost its way this season with the robot thing but it looks like it is coming back on track since they are out of the make believe world, keep this show.
Please type here to add a comment. (Note: spam, name-calling, and personal attack comments will be deleted.) I never watch it.
Agents of Shield lost it a while back. Killed a lot of people (for no good reason) and became too dark. I stopped after the middle of the 3rd season. Wish it hadn’t happened. I really liked the original cast.
cancel blackish. It’s become too political.
Please keep Designated Survivor And Scandal…love both of them
Please renew Once! I really think dish dropping abc has a lot to do with all their shows declining!
Could dish network removing the ABC network this year be affecting the viewing numbers for these shows?
Your ratings are incredibly close to what I think. And since I used to work at Disney, that’s cool. I think “Fresh off the Boat ” is very funny, and coincidental to a high school friend, Eddie Hong, Columbus, ,where I lived, Orlando, and some of my fantasies.
Last Man Standing is still one of the funniest shows on tv. Dr. Ken is hilarious and so are Blackish and the Middle. The Goldbergs, Fresh Off The Boat, American Housewife and Imaginary Mary should be taken off the air,
I think this show is just plain silly.
Bring back night time shows like Peyton Place ,Dynasty something on this order….. Revenger was the best bring it back…. There is crap to much…..
I NEED MORE “TO TELL THE TRUTH”!!! PLEASSSEEE!
My family and I enjoy you’re bringing back a couple of the old game shows…we really enjoy The Match Game….wonder if there may be some other old shows from days gone by that could make a comeback. Hoping you guys will look into it.
Still….WE NEED MORE TO TELL THE TRUTH!
I have to agree with this one.
Blindspot a great show! I watch it all the time.
