American Idol is one step closer to a comeback. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the show’s producers have reached an agreement in court to reboot the cancelled FOX TV series.
Earlier, we reported producers of the singing competition show were in talks with NBC for a possible revival. The series ended last year on FOX after 15 seasons.
This week, American Idol‘s production companies, 19 Entertainment and FremantleMedia Limited, reached an agreement in court with the “intention to re-launch American Idol on American television by seeking a new license agreement with a broadcaster, network or other platform subject to various terms and conditions.”
According to THR, FremantleMedia has been pitching an American Idol reboot to NBC and required a deal with the other production company, 19 Entertainment, in order to proceed. The latter filed for bankruptcy after the series ended last April. Now that the two have reached a settlement in court, plans for a re-launch can continue.
What do you think? Are you a fan of American Idol? Would you watch a revival?
Renew the show. I love American Idol!!! I’m looking forward to watching the show
I love American Idol!!! so a renew is a firm yes for me. I’m looking forward to seeing the show.
Wow! Thrilled beyond belief, what terrific exciting news. Wishing Simon Cowell and Steven Tyler could be judges, what the heck get the band back together Simon, Paula and Randy! You all really made my day with this fab news!!!
Why? This just adds to the smoldering pile of crud on TV.
YES
Yes. I would definitely watch a revival of American Idol.
I enjoyed the show and I would watch it.
No, please no, it lasted well beyond relevance and clogged up the whole schedule causing many, much better shows to be canceled just because there was no room on the schedule.
Absolutely!! Love watching regular people getting the big break they deserve. Love Keith, JLo and Harry’s dynamics they bring for the talented!!!
I’m a fan of American Idol and The X Factor.
I would also watch a revival of The X Factor if it ever comes back.
FremantleMedia, if you’re reading this, you need to re-launch The X Factor, too.
“X Factor” lost its need to be watched in the US several times. (Losing Nicole of the Dolls as a judge, when that rapper-felon idiot became a finalist, etc.)
Likewise, “Idol” is done when NBC is its best hope, which already has a singing-competition show whose winners are never heard from again.
Seasons 1-2 had their ratings higher and season 3 had it’s ratings lower.
Fox wanted to renew The X Factor for it’s fourth season but Simon Cowell didn’t want to do it anymore so he chose to rest it for a while before he went back to judge The X Factor UK. As of now, everybody wants The X Factor to come back to America and Simon is willing to bring it back.
