Bones is getting ready for its mid-season return to FOX on Thursday night, and these final episodes of season 11 will take the cast and the story of their characters into the final season next year.
Michael Peterson spoke with TV Insider about the final season in a new interview, and he shared his excitement about season 12.
He said the following about what fans can expect as Bones closes out its run:
“What we’re really excited about for Season 12, and what we did when we went to Fox and said,’”Hey, we want and really need a 12th season’—and they were so great to give it to us—‘[because] we want to have Bones go out the right way.’
One of the things David Boreanaz told us at the beginning of the season when [co-showrunner] Jon [Collier] and I took over the show as showrunners is to go back and watch that first season, and look at the magic that happened there; that dynamic between the characters, and grab as much of that feeling as you can. While watching that first season, we kind of saw some arcs that had been started that we never quite finished. When we went in and talked to Fox, we talked to them entirely about character: where we need Booth and Brennan to go to, and we need this whole season to finish off personal arcs that are hinted at in the first season.”
Bones has become a staple of FOX’s primetime line-up. It has moved from timeslot to timeslot over the years, but its loyal fans have stayed with the show. FOX is giving this series a proper send-off, which so many shows do not see on television these days.

We have all the episodes and still watch them almost daily. Sorry to see all our favorite characters go. They all fit together so awesomely.
This is the only show in my life, aside from Rainbow Brite when I was a child, that makes me do a little happy dance when I see there’s a new episode. It’s a show about death, essentially, yet it touches on so many of life’s moments and the web of intricacies we share with those around us. This show has made me laugh, cry, hold my breath and glad I have Hulu for the times I have to run to the bathroom and don’t want to miss a second. I started watching Bones because of David Boreanez. I watched… Read more »
