CBS has released some information, images, and a video preview of their upcoming new medical drama, Code Black. The hour series will air on Wednesdays at 10pm, following Criminal Minds.
Here’s the information:
CODE BLACK, based on the award-winning documentary by Ryan McGarry, is a heart-pounding medical drama that takes place in the busiest, most notorious ER in the nation, where the staggering influx of patients can outweigh the limited resources available to the extraordinary doctors and nurses whose job is to treat them all – creating a condition known as Code Black. At the heart of the ER’s controlled chaos is Residency Director Dr. Leanne Rorish (Academy Award winner Marcia Gay Harden), renowned for successfully performing high-risk procedures in Center Stage, the trauma area reserved for the most critical cases. Her four new first-year residents are Christa Lorenson (Bonnie Somerville), Malaya Pineda (Melanie Kannokada), Mario Savetti (Benjamin Hollingsworth) and Angus Leighton (Harry M. Ford). Leanne’s confidante, Jesse Sallander (Luis Guzman), is an amiable seen-it-all senior nurse who manages the residents. Also working in the ER is Dr. Neal Hudson (Raza Jaffrey), an excellent physician who sometimes disagrees with Leanne’s “cowboy” approach, and Dr. Rollie Guthrie (William Allen Young), the energetic, longest-serving attending. In Center Stage, life is measured in seconds, and these heroic doctors and nurses operate with speed and skill within an overwhelmed system to treat the crowds of people who are often there for one of two reasons: to die or to receive a life-saving miracle. Michael Seitzman, Marti Noxon, Linda Goldstein-Knowlton, Ryan McGarry and David Semel are executive producers for ABC Studios in association with CBS Television Studios. The pilot was directed by David Semel (“Madam Secretary”).
What do you think? Do you plan to check out this new series? Do you think it will be a hit in the ratings? Cancelled after one season?
Watching now on the. Dr/tv.
Like it!
Perhaps the worst medicine being practiced on any television show and I’m including comedies and soap operas
I have watched 2 episodes very dramatic, it is a tv show, it is entertaining. That being said, whomever they have been using to do some of their medical consultation to make sure the details are correct leaves me disappointed. There were multiple issues with the ER scenes having details that would be not possible. The scenes tonight from the OR were laughable, even basic details missed. An ER doctor going to the OR to do surgery, not likely, not even really legal, too many issues with credentialing, you don’t see a Podiatrist doing eye surgery, just like you wouldn’t… Read more »
The dialogue is dumb.
I think going to be a hit.
Every hospital in which I’ve ever been a guest has used codes differently. I’ve seen the ER and trauma rooms in hospitals large and small, and nevertheless, I find shows like this endlessly fascinating. I object when they get details about Addison’s Disease wrong, because it’s so rare that it would be nice to see it dx’d correctly. Other than that, I have no complaints. I *love seeing hospital shows, because it puts all of my own stuff in perspective. Keep in coming!
I’ve been a nurse for 15+ years. This show looks overly dramatic, unrealistic, and the dialogue highlighted in the trailer is just out-and-out laughably stupid. I won’t be watching, it’s already annoying the piss out of me.
This show looks like the real thing. I was a nurse for 25 yrs working in surgery then to Hospice and these scenes are some of the most real ones that go on int he hospital. Hope it lasts more than one season.
I love this show. Hope it stays on for a very long time.
If the writers aren’t smart enough to do research to know code black has nothing to do with medical emergencies but means severe weather then they won’t be able to write good scripts this show is a loser before it ever airs. Over 25 years in the medical field
Actually Code Black is used in triage. Code Black is dead not able to Resuscitate. It’s like any other TV medical show a lot of drama.
Looks like an awesome, pivoting & nail bitting type of entertainment! Gotta be a video game after this one! Cannot wait!
Show title is stupid code blue covers the situation and codes black means severe weather in most of the U.S. so it shows the show’s writers can’t do simple research and the show is a stuoid loser for stuoid losers to watch
You obviously didn’t do your research
code black (kōd blak)
A vague term that means different things in different areas. 1. A patient in ER intake is dead on arrival. 2. Warning indicating an explosive device may be present in a health care facility. 3. Warning that a mass casualty incident has occurred.
Also, if you ever watched Grey’s Anatomy..which is obvious you didn’t…they had an episode titled Code Black. Look how successful that show is, been around since at least 2005 or 2006. You just don’t want this show to succeed for some odd reason. If you don’t like medical shows, then by all means watch something else.
those are the ways I have always know CODE BLACK
This looks very interesting if they have decent technical advisors and consultants to make sure they follow real medical protocols If it follows in the steps of ER, and they get the technical aspects right, I will look forward to watching this show.
‘CODE BLACK’ is, as I am predicting, the new ER for the next 15 season.
Stay clear of the triage and crash it to ‘Code Black’ and then, stay tuned.
Not going to watch Code Black because the trailer is 7 minutes long and I can’t live without it. This series is going to be a disappointment for CBS.
I don’t see how you can say it’s going to be a disappointment. I hope you are wrong.
What are you complaining about? Remember CBS had a failed medical series in Three Rivers with Alex O’Loughlin? I have a feeling that Code Black should fail as well. Get used to it and I hope you’re going to be 100% wrong.
Yes, I do remember that show, and I liked it. CBS doesn’t seem to promote medical shows as much as they push cop shows…or stupid comedies like How I Met Your Mother. If you don’t like medical shows, change the channel. Give this a chance. You’re as bad as CBS. You already set it up to fail.
You’re such a hypocrite S.S. and you should know better than that. Stop whining and complaining because you’re such a bully.
How am I a hypocrite and a bully? I’m far from that. I’m just stating that CBS does seem to set medical shows up to fail. And I am not whining. Unreal!!
I love medical shows (hmm, haven’t heard news on Night Watch yet), and I will watch this. CBS is there one of these pilot shows you really plan on keeping???? And, who can’t love Marcia Gay Harden?? She’s a great actress.
I meant Night Shift…
I will watch and see, however if it is Done by Shonda Rhimes, I WILL NOT WATCH..not ready to get a crushed Heart Again !
