The smallest network has been attracting more attention in the past couple years and with more superhero TV shows than ever before during the 2016-17 season. Will they all be hits? How many shows on The CW will be cancelled or renewed? Stay tuned.
There’s lots of data that network execs looks at when deciding whether to renew or cancel a TV series but ratings are the major ingredient. These charts will be updated daily, as new ratings data becomes available.
CW shows (so far): Arrow, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, The Flash, Frequency, Hooten & The Lady, iZombie, Jane the Virgin, Masters of Illusion, No Tomorrow, The Originals, Penn & Teller: Fool Us, Reign, Riverdale, Supergirl, Supernatural, Terry Crews Saves Christmas, The Vampire Diaries, and Whose Line Is It Anyway?
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated charts, please try reloading the page. You can also view them here and here.
A couple of notes about these charts:
These figures are updated automatically as new ratings are released. The averages are based on the final national numbers (live plus same day viewing), unless marked with an asterisk (*). For technical reasons, I have to resort them manually so feel free to let me know if I missed something.
Keep in mind that the demo numbers are typically what’s most important to advertisers. Therefore, that’s how the networks measure success. Advertisers pay more for ad time on a show that has a higher demo rating. Because older viewers don’t count? No, it’s because younger viewers watch less traditional TV and are harder to reach.
Demo numbers are typically reported using the 10ths decimal place (2.4, for example). In the averages, I’m using an extra decimal for easier ranking. The networks take into account when shows air on Fridays and Saturdays, nights when TV viewership is lower.
What do you think? Are you surprised by any of the ratings? Which shows should be doing better? Which one do you think will be cancelled next?
Please, please, PLEASE RENEW #Frequency @frequency @CW
Frequency is simply amazing. I’m from Europe and I love this new show because it’s so much different and original. The ratings are a bit too low but I hope they will not cancel it.
It’s actually based on a movie of the same name, but in the movie the main character was a man instead of a woman. So it’s not really that original.
I watch 7 out of the 11 shows listed above. Even though crazy x is one of them and i still like it, it feels different from last season and not as much fun. I think i just stopped relating to her as she became crazier. On the other hand, I love No Tomorrow. I don’t understand why everyone isn’t watching
I deeply miss No Tomorrow. It truly was one of the best shows on TV
I live in Denmark and have watched TVD from the first pilot episode. I was sold. If I want to see TVD, my only option are Netflix ore to bye the Dvd. Netflix in Denmark just uploaded season 6. How can a Danish, watch live? I hope you will consider to keep TVD. (sorry my bad English)
Does this red ratings mean the crossovers doesnt work as aspected?
And they re in danger?
I dont hope so.
Red means it’s a drop from previous episode. Green means gaining viewers.
Supernatural been watching since day one big fan. Has anyone thought about doing a cross over
Would like to see a crossover with Vampires Diaries on the series Finale were Sam and Dean show up and waste them all..lol
Please keep Frequency, I love this show! I also love all the DC shows, it took a while for Legends of Tomorrow to warm up to me, but it did and I thought the Crossover episodes were Outstanding.
Time for Crazy Ex to be cancelled. The audience is down 35% from last year and a 0.20 average live rating means it belongs on SYFY or a crappy cable network.
It won’t get cancelled bevause it has earned the most awards for CW than any other show on the network.
Love Supernatural can’t wait for the next episode. The show is a real winner great cast! The Flash, Arrow, DC,Frequency are also awesome shows.
Supernatural none of the rest
Super girl my friend sad to give it a chance. I did and now I am out the lesbians have no point being on this show. Really you have to push your agenda here. I was really starting to enjoy this series now I’m OUT!!!!!
Really! You’re judging a great show because of a lesbian couple? Get with the times!
Ask Jesus how he feels about.what… you are pushing ..its a bad choice .. I pray your eyes would be opened to his truth.
Its television people. It is made for entertainment. This isn’t the place to show off our battle skills over race, religion, or sexuality. This is a place to root for the shows we want to come back next year so we can continue to be entertained.
That’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve heard in a long time. You must be such a homiphobe to let that small part of the show bother you so much that you’re missing an awesome show!
I dont like the only reason I gave super girl a thumbs down.
Sorry the only reason I gave a thumbs down is because I don’t like the show Supergirl. No other reason just not my type of show.
Love Jane, No Tomorrow, The Flash, iZombie, and The 100 is my favorite!
IZombie is one of my favorite shows all week during the season
They should really figure out a way where us viewers who don’t watch traditional television anymore can still have a voice and be able to show that we are watching just in the way we want. Like going to a website and clicking the show’s and episodes we watch each week with one vote being allowed per IP address or computer. I haven’t watched normal tv in years other than sports and the news. I go to the internet to watch all my favorite tv shows and use different websites wherever I can find the show to watch without crap… Read more »
if u rn’t making them money by watching their crap commercials then they don’t care about ur opinion. Watch on http://www..cwtv.com the day after airing, suffer the crap commercials, and then they will know what u watch.
The problem is that even if you stream the shows on the official internet site it won’t count for Nielsen ratings. You can show your support by watching on their site, but that’s it. For advertizers Nielsen rating C+3 is the important number, counted by Nielsen boxes, nothing else. Sad and a very out of date system, but still true.
Actually we don’t know that, with the rise of Netflix, the advertisers are willing to give streaming ad’s on their website a chance. Hell, it could give them a much better stats about who watches what.
Agreed! I watch the shows on hulu, netflix ,and the cw app!
Man…. You hit the nail on the head! I can’t watch my shows on their regular time. So I also go online.
What is happening with THE 100 – love that show. Miss it. One of the best – most exciting, different, and faithfully watched every episode set my pvr so not to miss. – loved it.
Returns Feb. 1st, following Arrow, taking Frequency’s place when its season ends Jan. 25th.
On her way (y)
The show No Tomorrow is fun to watch, refreshinglyl different from run-of-the-mill comedies. It is funny, at times hilarious, and with a good message–enjoy life, without ridiculing or hurting others. I have seen so many shows where fun meant insulting others. This is one show I would like to see renewedfld like to see renewed
What about Live +3 and +7 numbers?
We don’t get those numbers on a regular basis so can’t report accurate averages. For the most part, networks are interested in C3 ratings (commercials seen within three days of airdate). Because people often use DVR-recorded shows to skip commercials, those numbers are often not that different from the live+3 ratings we already use.
