It was a little bit of a surprise that Ghost Whisperer was cancelled by CBS earlier this week. While the show’s ratings have dropped significantly this season, many reported that the TV show was on track for season six. Well, CBS may have cancelled it but the TV show could still continue on ABC.
Ghost Whisperer follows Melinda Gordon (Jennifer Love Hewitt), a young woman who has the ability to see, talk to, and help the dead. Series regulars have included David Conrad, Camryn Manheim, Jay Mohr, Aisha Tyler, Christoph Sanders, Jamie Kennedy, and Kenneth Mitchell.
With the current ratings, Ghost Whisperer wouldn’t ordinarily be of interest to ABC. However, the network co-owns the show with CBS and actually handles the production in-house. They actually developed the series before CBS picked it up back in 2005. If the price is right, ABC would stand to make more money from season six episodes once they hit syndication.

According to Deadline, negotiations for Ghost Whisperer possibly moving to ABC started on Tuesday afternoon and are still in motion. Word is that they are going well though there are a number of points to work out.
It’s positive that the showrunner for next season is already in place and producers have signed on. That means that the show is ready to go back into production. The Ghost Whisperer writing staff have all been asked not to take other jobs until a final decision is made.
For now, people are being cautiously optimistic. Deals like this have fallen apart at the last minute before but things are reportedly looking good. We’ll obviously keep you posted.
What do you think? Will a deal be made so that Ghost Whisperer can continue for year six on ABC? If that were to happen, when would you like to see it air — on Friday nights or in another spot?

You cannot cancel Ghost Whisperer!! I have not missed an episode except the one that aired the night before my husband died. We never missed it. As he lay in the hospital, I kept seeing Melinda comming in and letting me tell him good bye one last time. I know it sounds silly but it is what helped me through the last 3 days not being able to talk to him. As long as the show is on I am living a memory. I know there are ghosts and I love the show!!
Thank YOU!
PLEASE! Someone keep it on the air. I’m addicted along with all my friends.
Hope it stays on, wish it would go back to the way it was originally. Our favorite show on Fridays in the winter.
Ghost Whisperer is the only program I watch on CBS! They are losing another viewer!
I love Ghost Whisperer, it is the one tv show that I will never miss. I have started buying the previous seasons on dvd so I can continually watch it. I don’t care if ABC or CBS runs it on their station, but you CAN NOT cancel Ghost whisperer. Jennifer Love Hewitt is one of my all time favorite actresses and I couldn’t handle being able to watch this show. Please, please keep in on tv.
Are they serious? Ghost Whisperer is on of the best shows on tv right now. I look forward to it every Friday.
Please bring back Ghost Whisper it is most enjoyable
This is one of the most innovative and solid shows on TV. The shows are fresh and well connect. I want it to continue, and if it’s on ABC and not CBS then I will turn the channel. It is one of only a few shows that I watch on CBS.
I’m still finding it hard to believe that they’ve done this. I’ve been a big fan since Day One.
I certainly hope things work out with ABC. I must admit though that I would like to see the focus go back to more positive stories. Still, it would be such a shame to let this cast and crew be broken up when I feel there could be so many inspiring and interesting stories left to be written. Let’s hope for the best.
Seems like CBS has come up with a 3 hour must see TV match with GW, Medium and Miami Medical on Friday night.
All great shows, great characters and plot lines. Either live or DVR’d, it’s the best 3 hours on one channel of the whole week, other than sports.
If it’s a better cost/financial decision canceling on CBS but ABC picks it up, understood. That doesn’t mean I won’t watch one then the other…
Remember… “it’s the show, stupid” not the network.
The best shows, regardless of channel, local, cable, satellite, web… still wins.
I was so disappointed to hear that one of the shows that I enjoy the most has been cancelled. I always thought they made a huge mistake by killing off Jim and bringing his spirit back in the body of a new husband, even though we’re still looking at the actor who played the old Jim. Too complicated. And viewers were left hanging for a while, thinking one of the best characters was gone forever. Until I found out they planned to bring Jim back, I almost stopped watching. Now I’m into it again and it’s suddenly cancelled. I hope… Read more »
Yeah, again ABC you need to take on Ghost Whisperer, because it is awesome, and tonights episode so far is wicked good!! Love that little Aiden!
I’d watch it whatever day it’s on….it can’t end yet!
Yes. ABC should pick it u. Jennifer is excellent. The storyline is good and it should definetly be aired on fridays. Its got a good place on fridays maybe different network but still good. But on the other hand we can’t be greedy. If they wanna change the night we gotta let them. I guess what saying is we gotta take what we can get. If they just put that on some other night fine better than nothing.
Well another show cancelled. I quit watching tv alltogether because every show gets cancelled and replaced with some mind numbing reality series. Maybe if the shows were on when they are supposed to be and not always pushed for a sporting event they could keep their fanbase. Gasp… Not every one in america likes football and know that the shows will be on hours from schedule.
