Grey’s Anatomy aired its finale for season 12 on ABC on Thursday night, and one cast member will not be returning to the series. TV Line released the statement shared by Sara Ramirez after the finale aired last night. Do not continue reading if you have not watched the finale and know how Callie left.
The actress said the following:
“I’m deeply grateful to have spent the last 10 years with my family at Grey’s Anatomy & ABC, but for now I’m taking some welcome time off. Shonda’s been so incredible to work for, and we will definitely continue our conversations! I send my love to Ellen, the rest of the cast & crew, and I look forward to always being a part of the Shondaland family!”
Ramirez joined Grey’s Anatomy during season two of the series. The character has been through a lot during the last ten seasons, but she is now finding her happiness after a bitter custody trial. At the end of the finale, Arizona Robbins, who is played by Jessica Capshaw, showed up on Callie’s doorstep and agreed to allow her to go to New York.
There was speculation about her possible departure last month when production wrapped on season 12 and Ramirez posted a goodbye on Twitter. Fans thought it sounded like a complete goodbye, and now fans know that Sara Ramirez is definitely leaving. For good? It doesn’t sound like forever, but it is definitely for now.
Callie Torres definitely added something to the series, and she will be missed by her loyal fans. Were you surprised by the departure of Sara Ramirez? Will you miss Callie Torres on Grey’s Anatomy? Tell us what you think.
