Though Harry’s Law was the most-watched scripted TV show on NBC this season, the network cancelled it. As I’ve suggested in the past, advertisers favor shows that attract those in the 18-49 demographic. Though Harry’s Law had a lot of viewers, the legal series had some of the lowest demographic numbers on the network.
When asked why Kathy Bates and company had been let go, NBC chairman Bob Greenblatt said, “It was a difficult decision. Everyone here respects Harry’s Law a lot but we were finding it hard to grow the audience for it. Its audience skewed very old. It’s hard to monetize that.”
Bates broke the news of the show’s cancellation over the weekend. She wrote to fans, “Sad news today. Harry’s Law will not be renewed for a 3rd season. We are all terribly sad. Many thanks for all your support.”

The actress later noted, “Waiting for this verdict was tough. We wrapped a month ago so it was a very long wait!”
Bates reconciled, “Tough day getting used to the idea of no more Harry. Think I’ll keep her with me 4ever.”
When asked if there was a possibility that Harry’s Law might move to cable, Bates responded, “No hope.” But, responding to an inquiry last night on the subject, Bates wrote, “Not sure, but don’t think so.”
Justine Lupe, who played Phoebe Blake, wrote, “Sad day. Little bit of heartbreak. What a gift to had had this time.”
Actress Karen Olivo, who joined the cast in season two as Cassie Reynolds, responded with a message to her castmates, “It was an honor, my friends!”
Nathan Corddry, who’d been playing Adam Branch since the show began, noted, “I’d thank everyone individually, but the list is too long.Never was happier professionally. Thank you for a wondrful 2 years. #tough2swallow”
What do you think? Are you going to miss Harry’s Law as much as the cast will? If the show did move to another channel, would you follow it?
I cannot believe they have cancelled this show it is so wonderful, Harry”s Law makes you laugh and cry, it will be sorrily missed. what is wrong with NBC they have so few good shows and get rid of the good ones. wake up NBC. I can’t believe it. love the show
What a mistake! The only good show that the peacock carries and it gets canceled because of “age-ism.” Maybe the network suits should be canceled instead!
I can’t believe you canceled Harry’s Law. I LOVED the show, the cast, the stories everything about it.
I read in my Tampa Tribune on 5/14/12, ” Harry’s Law was one of NBC’s more popular shows, but executives said it fell victim to a deadly malady in network TV: its audience was too old”. Well if that is they way they feel I will stop watching NBC all together as ” I am TOO old”.
NBC is stupid I loved that show. Yes, I would watch it on cable.
Me too Sandy!
Would definitely follow the show – wherever it went!
Wow. I’m too old? How sad to think that NBC has written me–and all my fellow “oldies” –off as our demographics don’t work for the network. Guess now I’ll have to let NBC discover that their choices don’t work for me. Harry’s Law was the absolute best series going: good actors, good writing, and great story lines. Seems like it was one of the few shows on NBC worth watching. NBC advertisers beware–you are now on my boycott list.
Are they crazy. The only good thing to happen on TV in a long time. I am seventy years old and resent that reason for the decision. This “old people” stuff is getting out of hand. YES I would follow it on any channel. I would even upgrade my service is necessary.
ABC & NBC lost us “OLD-folk” a long time ago. We only watch Castle (ABC) and Harry’s Law (NBC). But for the most part we are grateful to CBS, TNT, A&E and USA for their terrific and intelligent programming.
Harry’s Law is a fantastic show. David E. Kelly shows are well thought out and Kathy Bates is an excellent actress. Why NBC only cares about a younger audience i’ll never know…….. it’s all about the ratings. are we baby boomers now out of the picture and no longer count?? The networks need to stop with these mindless shows……… it’s no wonder our children have no interest in current events……….. i hope Harry’s Law will return on another network that cares………. NBC has gone down the tubes lately………… cable is becoming more attractive every day……
YES! I’d follow! I love the chemistry and Harry’s character…the writers did a great job and the actors a wonderful portrayal!! They will be missed…Please let us know if it moves to another channel…
I love this show. I have stopped getting invested in new network shows because of actions like this. I am watching more and more cable.
You get maybe 2 months of shows, from start of new season until about Thanksgiving.
Then the networks start showing reruns, skip weeks and sometimes months. By then I don’t care about the show anymore.
No respect for the viewer.
That is a nobrainer of couse I would. Who pays these guys anyway. One of the best shows on TV. BIG MISTAKE GUYS
This proves why NBC is failing. Instead of marketing to advertisers who sell to the demographics of the “most watched scripted show on NBC this season,” they cancel their success. Inane.
This just breaks my heart…….what does it matter if it is just us old folks that watch the show. I really hope that something can be worked out to allow this show to continue. There is not much on TV that we like but this is certainly the best.
This is a big mistake!!! I am tempted to boycott the network.
Yes, I will follow the show wherever it goes, love the show.
I would watch Harry’s Law no matter what station picked it up. This is a terrible MISTAKE!!!
