TNT has officially cancelled Leverage after five seasons on the air. The action series will conclude its run on Tuesday, Christmas Day. Thankfully, the show about modern Robin Hoods will have a suitable ending.
Executive producer Dean Devlin recently wrote an open letter to fans. He penned, “As of the writing of this letter, we still do not know if there will be a season six of our show… Because of this uncertainty, John Rogers and I decided to end this season with the episode we had planned to make to end the series, way back when we shot the pilot. So, the episode that will air on Christmas is, in fact, the series finale we had always envisioned.”
Here’s TNT’s official statement about the cancellation:
TNT’S “LEVERAGE” COMING TO AN END
TNT’s Leverage has thrilled audiences with its delightfully intricate plots, its “stand up for the little guy” attitude and its terrific performances from stars Timothy Hutton, Gina Bellman, Christian Kane, Beth Riesgraf and Aldis Hodge. But after five wonderful years, it’s time to say goodbye. Leverage will come to a close on Christmas, Tuesday, Dec. 25, at 10 p.m. (ET/PT), with a series finale that stands as one of the show’s best episodes.
We are honored to have worked with executive producer Dean Devlin, Electric Entertainment, creators John Rogers and Chris Downey, and all the cast and production crew on Leverage. We look forward to exploring new opportunities to work with them again in the future. We also want to thank the passionately devoted fans of Leverage, who have been the driving force behind its success.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Leverage won’t be back for a sixth season or do you think this is a good time to end the series?
Stupid move TNT. Kepping a has been crap show like Dallas and dumping Leverage. Stupid.
So so true!
This truly sucks, the idea of Star Wars Episodes 7 through 9 makes me sick to my stomach, and that doesn’t even compare to this. It’s like Luke saying to Obi wan ‘No, shove that ‘light saber’ up your ass!’ TNT, Leverage is Luke’s light saber in this scenario. Moron move!!
TNT – They’re Not Thinking
Why would you cancel “Leverage” ? What a bunch of buffoons.
I had started to boycott TNT after the network cancelled “Men of a Certain Age”, but my wife talked me into staying tuned for “The Closer” and “Rizzilo and Isles”. It is going to take a terrific Christmas gift from her to keep me from blocking the network in my house.
I feel bad for the cast and crew that the show has been cancelled with such short notice. My coworker at DISH and I think it’s great that the writers had prepared for the situation and that show won’t end with an unintended cliffhanger. I have been a big fan of the show and will definitely be watching Christmas night on my DISH Hopper. My family isn’t as into the show as I am though, so I’m glad the Hopper can work on up to four TVs simultaneously. I can watch in my den in peace while my family watches… Read more »
In today’s world we could all use a little Leverage. This is one of best shows on TV not just on TNT. There’s nothing else on TNT worth watching so no need to tune in there.
I can’t believe that TNT is allowing this show to go. This is one of the best shows I have seen in a while. If any TV show networks read this, please pick this show up. You will not regret it!!
Do you want to save leverage? Go to the SAVE LEVERAGE and “like” it
It’s a shame that TNT is cancelling the series. It’s a horrible state of affairs today where shows that promote violence, killing and social disfunction (reality shows in general) have become the norm, and a show that provides real entertainment with good plots, great actors and can be viewed by ALL members of the family (can’t say that about too many shows today) is being taken off the network for good. Wake up TNT! Why kill a good thing when you’ve got one?
Leverage is one of my favorite shows and I think that this is, without a doubt, TNT’s stupidest move to date. All they’re going to give us in return is either a reality show (lame), a courtroom show (overdone) or a cop show (dont even get me started). Thanks for the, hands down, crappiest Christmas present ever.
Leverage is one of the best original televsion series on TNT.
TNT is cancelling Leverage, and what is left is shows that
are unoriginal, and just really crap- like Falling Skies, Dallas,
etc.. TNT cancels their quality T.V. shows, and replaces them
with commercialized uninteresting shows- no more DRAMA-
there is a reason why USA Network is beating
TNT in the ratings, because they keep shows like Leverage.
I am no longer a fan of TNT, with Leverage cancelled-
there is nothing worth watching on TNT.
TNT this has to be the worst mistake you could have made. What are you going to do bring out some kind of stupid reality show to take it’s place?? What….did too many people like the show, so you have to cancel it…and on freakin’ Christmas! TNT must be run by complete idiots!
The stories/characters were great. Another good cable show bits the dust.
I am sad that it is ending.

Series should not end – it’s a breath of fresh air compared to the the sad, real world we now live in. It’s a shame you cannot keep something as good as Leverage going Maybe some other station will have the intelligence to pick it up with all of the same cast and begin a new run!! The cast should not be changed if, hopefully, someone else picks it up. Hopefully someone will come to their senses.
