If Elizabeth McCord wants to become “Madam President”, she better hurry. CBS has announced that the Madam Secretary TV show will end with its upcoming sixth season. There will be just 10 episodes in the final season and they will begin airing in Fall 2019.
A political thriller, Madam Secretary stars Téa Leoni, Tim Daly, Sara Ramirez, Željko Ivanek, Keith Carradine, Sebastian Arcelus, Patina Miller, Geoffrey Arend, Erich Bergen, Kathrine Herzer, Wallis Currie-Wood, and Evan Roe. The drama follows the shrewd, determined Elizabeth McCord (Leoni). As U.S. Secretary of State, she battles office politics, while driving diplomacy and negotiating global deals.
Elizabeth was once a CIA analyst, who exited that post for ethical reasons. She later returned to public life, at the request of President Conrad Dalton (Carradine). He values her apolitical leanings, knowledge of the Middle East, flair for languages, and unconventional thinking. Elizabeth is married to Henry (Daly), a former theology professor who is now an intelligence operative. Together, they’re bringing up three children, which can really test her diplomatic skills.
CBS Entertainment president Kelly Kahl announced that there won’t be a seventh season at CBS’ upfronts press breakfast earlier today. Kahl said, “They’re going to do 10 episodes in the fall and tie up the storyline. We’re happy and excited to do that for Téa, the cast, and the audience. It’s hard when a show ‘just poofs and goes away.’ We like to be able to do this and send the show off with a great deal of respect and celebration. Everyone appreciates when we are able to do that.”
What do you think? Do you like the Madam Secretary TV show? Do you think season six is a good time to end this CBS TV show? Would you have watched a seventh season?
Love this show. Will definitely miss it.
I guess I’m happy with the decision on Madam Secretary… because, I can tell with the way the writing is going…. things will automatically lead toward “Madam President”… the writers and cast have been doing an excellent job and I must admit that I am quite excited to see this new spin-off series begin…..
They aren’t even telling us there is going to be a spinoff. I want it to be Madam President so bad but if they are going to do it, they aren’t telling us.
What’s the problem? Did it hit too close to home? This show was great! I actually hoped the way the stories were presented would give people a little food for thought. How sad that that isn’t a popular premis.
I think CBS needs to be aware of the age group that loves Madam Secretary.
You are trashing a great show for some garbage.
Quit getting rid of good shows.
I will hound you until you put Madam Secretary back on for 5 more seasons
expect a note from me until you wake up and realize that you threw away
a great show.
those 18-49 year old kids are clueless. quit surveying them. They do not care for
anything that is good tv.

Actually, I am 26 and I live for this show. The ethical things she does for the country and the hope that it should give the real leaders of our country. Hope that our leaders wake up one day and realize that their politically correct choices are in fact not morally or ethically correct. Also, the phenomenal acting and story line. Madam President would be a great spin-off for our country’s current moral issues and for people like us that sit every Sunday night on the dot to watch the excitement continue!
I enjoy Madam Secretary as much as Blue Bloods, West Wing and MASH. Id like to see it migrate over to her as President and her staff continue with her.
I’d also LOVE to see CBS bring Dallas back home and launch a next generation type of thing…. especially since we lost Ken Kercheval recently…. Pamela Rebecca vs. John Ross would be a nice rivalry to behold…
This is our favorite TV show, very sad to hear it will end. The plot lines are so timely and the acting is superb. We are ‘news junkies’ and watch very few serial shows but this is one of three and at the very top of the list.
I love Madam Secretary, but found it pushing a staunch leftist agenda toward the end and if that is why it was canceled, I am on board. However, a total new series opening say in the spring of 2020 featuring her presidential run would be epic, and likely never done before. CBS, or maybe Netflix should take that on.
My wife and I have greatly enjoyed this show, with its mix of political intrigue, interpersonal relationships, and family complications. Though it cators to extreme political correctness and stereotypical characters, her toughness and political savvy always make for an interesting diversion.
CBS is a bad choice. you cancel the best show with the most interesting actors
and replace it with stupid violent shows and dumb sitcoms.
KEEP MADAM SECRETARY!!!!!!!
If you do as you think is right I WILL QUIT WATC HING ANYTHING ON CBS
Do not cancel it.
I will continue to harass you until you keep Madam Secretary
I LOVE THIS SHOW!! Dont cancel it!!!
I can’t stand the thought of the show ending. They should just change the title to Madam President! This is the best show on TV. I’m getting so tired getting interested in shows and they end up being cancelled. Please don’t do that to this show. I will say that I will cancel my subscription to CBS all access if they cancel this show.
I’m sad to see Madam Secretary to end but I agree with Carmel Dee Lane a new series should continue as Madam President. I think they could go into alot of different directions with this one. Anxious to see what happens
I agree with Carmel Dee Lane. CBS has the chance to make an enticing transition from “Madam Secretary” to “Madam President”. A “Madam President” with the same writers, producers, actors, and ambiance as the original series has the potential to eclipse “The West Wing”. The timeliness is also noteworthy considering the high number of women vying for the White House currently. I hope CBS’ President, Barbara Hall and Lori McCreary seriously consider a spin-off.
Elizabeth should win to end this series, and a new series called “Madam President” could take over with Elizabeth taking over as the first female president in our nations history. There’s much more story to play out with the amazing cast. A few new faces but there’s such a great team in the current cast that a shift to show a respected female president would be a great show.
I agree! They should bring the cast back in a sequel called, Madame President.
New show, new season with Tea as president.
