What can fans expect from the final season of Madam Secretary? Recently, executive producers Barbara Hall and Lori McCreary spoke with TVLine about the CBS TV show’s sixth and final season.
The political drama follows U.S. Secretary of State Elizabeth McCord (Téa Leoni) as she battles office politics while driving diplomacy and negotiating global deals. The cast also includes Tim Daly, Sara Ramirez, Željko Ivanek, Keith Carradine, Sebastian Arcelus, Patina Miller, and Geoffrey Arend.
In the interview, Hall and McCreary revealed the sixth and final season of Madam Secretary will jump ahead to see Elizabeth become president:
We found a way to have the best of both worlds, where we decided to jump ahead and make her president … And we get the fun of picking and choosing the moments that we go back to, so that we don’t have to take even four or five episodes to do a whole campaign.”
Later, the two EPs also revealed some characters from the CBS TV show won’t return as regulars:
The decision I had to make was, what characters need to be most prominent in [Elizabeth’s] new division and her world? It’s such a different world that some of the other [characters’] jobs were not translated into what we wanted for her, and the kids aren’t really at home anymore.”
The sixth and final season of Madam Secretary premieres on CBS on October 6th at 10 p.m. ET/PT.
What do you think? Do you watch Madam Secretary? How do you want the series to end?
It’s not West Wing but it’s good. We need these type shows to bring up issues and look at things from different perspectives.
I love this show. Disappointed we don’t get to see several episodes of her running for president. Glad the kids are gone though. I would like to see the show go on several more episodes.
Well, I am more than delighted to hear that we will get to see her as President. I knew that it would be a possibility. Not sure who they have decided to oust, hope its not the team that has been working around her. I do love the kids and would love to see them grow with the presidency. Thank you for keeping it going with a new twist.
Bummer! It’s my favorite show. I was expecting it though since there was a probability that Elizabeth would become President. My hopes for the last season? 1. Stephanie gets a man (2) Senator Morejon gets ousted for something illegal.
I love the show and wish it was NOT the final season!
Please change your mind and keep this going.
I have grown to admire Barbara Hall (from” Joan of Arcadia) ..who gives her projects depth and complexities…and tends each character with respect and believe-ability. I am .thrilled that we have at least one more season of “Madame Secretary”…What’s next Barbara and Tia!!!???
I hate that they’re closing Madam Secretary I have really enjoyed Tea’ playing the part. I hope she gets another part as good or better than Elizabeth.
So disappointed this is the last season. Although it is fiction, I really need some positive example of diplomacy and decency working in politics, on the national and global level.
Yes I totally agree!! We needed more of this type of show!
Why are they closing or ending such a successful show?
I’m still clinging to the possibility that it hasn’t been cancelled. Only the name will change to MADAM PRESIDENT
Please CBS dont cancel madam secretary
I DO NOT WANT the series to end. Why can’t it go on as The President.
Madam Secretary is one of my favorite shows! I will really miss it!!!!! Maybe I will buy DVDs to rewatch the series including the episodes that I missed.
I love this show and hate to see it end…any way it would be pick up by Amazon or Netflix or Hulu?
I have over the air TV and cannot/will not stream TV!
Madam Secretary is my second favorite show. NCIS is #1, Madam Secretary is #2 and Designated Survivor is #3
Love the show!
