What’s This TV Show About?
Airing on the CBS television network, Magnum PI stars Jay Hernandez, Perdita Weeks, Zachary Knighton, Stephen Hill, Tim Kang, and Amy Hill. Recurring performers include Lance Kim, Chantal Thuy, and Martin Martinez. This reboot of the 1980s TV show follows Thomas Magnum (Hernandez), a decorated former Navy SEAL who repurposes his military skills to become a private investigator. He lives in a guest cottage on Robin’s Nest, the luxurious estate where he works as a security consultant to supplement his P.I. business. The “majordomo” of the property is Juliet Higgins (Weeks), a beautiful and commanding disavowed MI:6 agent who keeps Magnum in line. When Magnum needs back-up on a job, he turns to his trusted buddies and fellow POW survivors, chopper pilot Theodore “TC” Calvin (Hill) and Orville “Rick” Wright (Knighton), a former Marine door-gunner who now runs a nightclub. Magnum frequently has run-ins with police detective Gordon Katsumoto (Kang) and the two are more alike than either cares to admit. The unofficial “House Mom” and cultural curator of Robin’s Nest, Teuila “Kumu” Tuileta (Hill) is also one of Magnum’s biggest fans.
Season Four Ratings
The fourth season of Magnum PI averaged a 0.42 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 5.24 million viewers. Compared to season three, that’s down by 20% in the demo and down by 6% in viewership in the live+same day ratings (including DVR playback through 3:00 AM). While these numbers don’t include further delayed or streaming viewing, they are a very good indicator of how a show is performing, especially when compared to others on the same channel. There can be other economic factors involved in a show’s fate, but typically the higher-rated series are renewed and the lower-rated ones are cancelled. Magnum PI was cancelled by CBS but was later saved by NBC with a 20 episode renewal. Season five debuts on February 19, 2023. Stay tuned for further updates.
Telly’s Take
Will CBS cancel or renew Magnum PI for season five? Despite airing on Friday nights, this series has done pretty well for the network. I’ll keep an eye on the numbers this season but, think it has a good chance of being renewed, possibly for a final season. I’ll update this page with breaking developments. Great show, what a huge mistake CBS! Why would you cancel such a well-rounded show? No problem..I’ll just take my viewing to other networks!
CBS Typical network, just cancel a good show without giving its faithful fans closure. Just like ripping the ending out of a good book… but they leave the trashy (non)reality shows in there line up. I cut my cable because of stuff like this, but bought Paramount Plus just to watch MagnumPI. Guess I’ll be ending that subscription too.

Dont cancel MAGNUM
Cancelling is a huge mistake! It’s a great show, something my young teen daughter and I look forward to watching together weekly. I hope they have a change of heart or another channel picks it up. Too good to lose.
Sure hope another network or streaming channel picks this show up. I am upset to read that Magnum has been cancelled. Loved the original…love the reboot. Maybe they’ll reconsider?!
I surely hope Magnum PI is renewed!! It is one of my favorite shows and I look forward to it every Friday evening!!
Please keep it going… stories are different each week ans it’s something me and my husband look forward to. We both grew up with the original series and loved it, the remake is just as good…. Pllllleeeeaaasssseeeeee dont cancel….
Yes please renew Magnum PI. I really enjoy the show. My husband & I watch it every week faithfully. Jay does a great job playing the Magnum role. The whole cast work great together. Greatly hope there will be a Season 5.
WTF???? That’s a good show and the cast is great!!! Story’s are interesting and Higgins is to good to lose! Damn it doesn’t anyone think we might like the show!!!!
