Just this weekend, we reported that CBS had cancelled Mike & Molly after six seasons. Now, stars Melissa McCarthy and Billy Gardell have taken to Twitter in response to the news.
The sixth and final season of Mike & Molly premieres on January 6th.
Gardell, who plays Chicago police officer Mike Biggs, on the long-running CBS sitcom had this to say on Twitter:
Mike and Molly returns Jan 6, it will be our last episodes. There are 13 of them. Thank you everyone who supported us. 🙏🙏♥️♥️
— Billy Gardell (@BillyGardell) December 4, 2015
Meanwhile, McCarthy, who plays Biggs’ wife Molly Flynn, wrote on Twitter that she was “shocked and heartbroken” about the comedy’s cancellation:
I was shocked and heartbroken when @CBS canceled #MikeAndMolly. I would have shot this show for 50 more years. I’ll miss my 2nd family.
— Melissa McCarthy (@melissamccarthy) December 14, 2015
Ratings for the sitcom have dropped in the past few seasons. Though, the series still maintained an average of 8.44 million viewers for season five. The upcoming sixth season will be shortened, with only 13 episodes instead of a full 22.
What do you think? Are you a fan of Mike & Molly? Are you sad to see it cancelled?
Who do we contact to get this stupid, stupid decision reversed? I marvel at the multi-talented cast and search each day for the re-runs to escape the everyday worries most of us have these days.
This is just too sad! Same on you, CBS, for canceling one of the best comedy series on tv today! What were you thinking?
Sorry to hear this. One of my favorite shows. Always funny ! Too bad. Boo CBS.
This is heartbreaking! With everything that is hoing on in this World laughter is what we need more of.
I believe CBS needs a new Network Director!
So 8.44 million viewers isn’t enough for CBS? This network is a joke and the guy who runs it doesn’t have a clue about viewership. I’m 58 and my demographic doesn’t count yet I watch more tv than most younger people. My 20 something children are too busy to care about a lot of tv yet their demographic counts for more than mine. I watch less of CBS than the other networks because of their decisions on which shows to air. Blue Bloods, Madame Secretary and The Good Wife are about the only things I still watch and they will… Read more »
I don’t understand why they would cancel – it still had over 8 million tuning in. And you know other shows have a lot less and are still on air. Makes no sense. I will greatly miss this show – thank God for re-runs!
This is some Bullsh*t!!! ok, who’s going to start the campaign to Save Mike & Molly? I will be the first to sign!
This makes me sad… funny show..they cancel and keep the crap
Maybe they could spin it off without McCarthy? Gardell and the supporting cast have always been the funniest part of the show, and when McCarthy was ‘away’ on her writing course, it became even funnier!!
You’re kidding, right? What do you think it should be called, Mike and Molly’s Family After She Left Him? It’s Mike AND Molly for me or nothing. And since it’s being cancelled, I guess it’s nothing anyway.
First of all, McCarthy has stated recently that she would have stayed for “50 more seasons” if the show kept going. Secondly, “Molly” went off to her Summer writing course in the last episode of season 4- & returned from her course in the first episode of season 5. So, HOW could the show have been “even funnier without her”???? We have loved M&M for 5 seasons- & love the entire cast. Hoping that another network(cable?) will pick up the show… CBS is the worst when it comes to loyalty to their stars & their shows…
what joke such a great show even in australia
I love this show and the cast another good show canceled for what yet another stupid reality show.
This is most heartbreaking! My husband and I both have cancer, I am on SSD and he receives SSI. One of the BRIGHTEST AND Most FUN nights of the week for us is Mike & Molly. Our hearts are sad for everyone’s loss of this fantastic comedy that shoots straight to the heart as well as the funny bone.
8 million viewers is not enough for CBS? First, they strung along Rules Of Engagement, and now they ditch another really funny show? Yet 2 Broke Girls and Mom stay on the air?? Pathetic.
I almost agree w/you, Anne. I really do like MOM, but I’m with you all the way regarding 2 broke girls…. Now THAT should get canceled! It’s awful…. what kind of person thinks this if funny?
I’m with you, Mom is very well-done, but 2 Broke Girls has become straight low-class and ridiculous.
It’s about time this show was cancelled it was on way too long and now if she’s not too busy doing movies Melissa Mcarthy can sign on for Gilmore Girls it just wouldn’t be the same without Sookie.
