The Night Sky series has been sunset. Prime Video has cancelled the science-fiction show so there won’t be a second season.
A drama, the Night Sky TV show stars Sissy Spacek, J.K. Simmons, Chai Hansen, Kiah McKirnan, Julieta Zylberberg, Rocío Hernández, and Adam Bartley. Spanning space and time, the story follows Irene (Spacek) and Franklin York (Simmons). Years ago, the couple discovered a chamber buried in their backyard which inexplicably leads to a strange, deserted planet. They’ve carefully guarded their secret ever since, but when an enigmatic young man (Hansen) enters their lives, the Yorks’ quiet existence is quickly upended. The mystifying chamber they thought they knew so well turns out to be much more than they could ever have imagined.
Co-produced by Amazon Studios and Legendary Television, the series debuted on May 20th and all eight episodes were released the same day. Deadline reports that, while the series garnered positive reviews, Night Sky didn’t attract a large enough audience to justify the high-cost investment of making a second season of this sci-fi series.
While the show didn’t attract a large enough audience on Earth, perhaps the series might find more appreciation in other parts of the universe.
Prime Video, in conjunction with Amazon Web Services, SES, and Intelsat, beamed the first episode of the sci-fi drama series into outer space just in time for the series premiere. This marks not only the farthest distance from the earth that a TV series has been distributed but also makes Prime Video the first streamer to distribute its content directly into space.

Totally disappointed. These guys could shave $3 off of a freaking profit margin, then they’ll cancel a show. I mean I get it, top dogs are all about the money, squeezing every freaking penny.
But this is like Limitless, they canceled that TV series and it was awesome.

Very disappointed they are not creating a second season. The acting was very good. I hope they change their mind and at least give it a second chance.
Ugh, I knew it was too good a series to hope for a second season. This is so typical. No one is asking for a show that goes on and on like the writers are making it up as they go until they can’t squeeze anything else out of it. Just make a second season to wrap things up. It’s a great story with great acting. It deserves a great ending.

This is one of the finest shows I’ve ever watched on TV. It was a tight production, obvious that the producers put the art first, above and before the money, profit. Even if it’s just by a hair, all the best productions – movies, TV shows, theatre, opera, concerts, etc – are/were the best because the controlling entities allowed the art to be the primary driving factor, the purpose, the reason the production was being produced. I just discovered Night Sky on Prime and enjoyed it very much. I would love to see a Season 2.
I can’t believe they did not renew this great show. I was looking forward to another season. This show was something different and really interesting to watch. I don’t understand why good shows are disregarded They will go back to old shows and remake them but something new and deifferent gets cut off

I never binge watched anything before in my life. I was compelled to participate in this outstanding series. Now knowing that it was not renewed is just so sad. I may attempt to imagine the next episode, but I will need your dynamic writers, actors, cinematographers, just everyone who made this perfect series. While I am upset that it wasn’t renewed I am more grateful you accomplished what you did. Thank you.
Oh well…. We loved this show! finally got something decent to see. I cancelled my Netflix since there is no more ‘family’ decent content available. After a long time, we got see a show that didn’t start with a sex scene, or a lady taking a shower, or changing… no unnecessary obscenity every few minutes! The shows nowadays are like…’Everyone will eventually sleep with everyone’ kind of story. Or some Ex-marine saves the world kind of thing!
Now why did they ‘actually’ cancel?.. only God knows… coz there was not much LGBTQ stuff forced into the story???
Studios always do this. They are their own worst enemies when they create great shows, only to can them after they forgot to tell everyone they made it.
one of the very best series ever…can’t they reverse their decision and bring it back…as people become aware of it there will be a huge following…such crappy series get new seasons but here is a good one and they cancel it…so upset
Very disappointed that the series of NIGHT SKY has been canceled. I can see where there would be more interest as the word got out, but I understand you need to make a profit. Too too bad, my opinion. This series would have been a hit.
