On Call will not be returning for a second season on Prime Video. According to Deadline, the streaming service has canceled that police drama after one season of eight episodes.
The series from Wolf Entertainment will be shopped to other outlets, though, so viewers could see it return to the small screen at some point. Peacock is one possible home for the series.
Eriq La Salle, Lori Loughlin, Rich Ting, Troian Bellisario, and Brandon Larracuente star in the series, which follows the police officers of the Long Beach Police Department. The series focuses on a veteran female training officer (Belisario) and her rookie male ride-along (Larracuente).
The following was said about the decision to cancel the series:
“Indeed, Amazon a few weeks ago approached the producers of the show about a two-season renewal, sources said. It was looking good until the offer was accompanied by a request to reduce the premium on the series, I hear. Under the widely used current cost-plus streaming compensation model, the license fee producers get from the platforms covers the cost of the series plus a premium on top, which goes to the project’s profit participants and studio in lieu of backend.
According to sources, Amazon’s argument for the cut was that the company was losing money on the show, also something we hear often, especially on series that are not owned. For Wolf Entertainment and Universal TV, reducing a premium that was not big to begin with was not economically feasible, so the status of On Call at Amazon went from a pending two-season renewal to cancellation within the span of weeks.”
What do you think? Did you watch On Call on Prime Video? Were you hoping for a second season?

David and Mo loved On Call. Please bring season two some how.
Great show! Best I’ve seen in a long time. LOVED the two main characters! Rooted for them every step of the way. Trojan Bellisario and Brandon Larracuente are great in their roles and deserve more seasons. We need season 2, 3, 4 and more!
It’s getting ridiculous with these streaming services, it’s got to the point where I don’t want to watch a show unless I know it’s already been renewed at least for a second season, you make the investment in the characters and then they leave on a cliffhanger. It’s ********, So of course then you don’t tune in for the first season and it looks like the show shouldn’t be renewed so you can’t win with these idiots.
Absolutely loved On Call.
I love the show; binged watched it. I am so sorry it will not be on Prime. Bad decision. But I’ll look for it elsewhere. Hopeful soon
Great show. Stupid Amazon, that show could have run for several seasons.
Damn! I show binged the hell out that 1st season. For sure Season 2 was going to coming in smoking hot, now it’s up in smoke. I’m sure it has to return. While they’re at it bring back Southland
I just watched the entire season in a week. Excellent show. Variety of characters. 30 minute show that was an action filled drama. Seemed awesome to me.
A great show being canceled over $$$? Come on! WE need good shows adults can watch. Prime is short on this content, especially quality police dramas!

I am disabled and Amazon suit my needs where brick shops block my access and the local authority doesn’t want us bringing our wheelchair carrying cars along.
The television and films I can watch everywhere on Linux.
Amazon Video doesn’t play on my devices and I don’t see why I should pay anymore out for new hardware.
Windows 11 and Chrome is the same, limited to the few.
I think Amazon with All it’s damn money doesn’t care much about Quality shows!! The cancelation of this one along with Bosch Legacy speaks for itself!! I have less and less reason for freaking amazon “prrime”! NOTHING prime about it!
I was so looking forward to another season. Hoping someone will pick this show up
Not happy about the cancellation but hopefully another streamer will pick it up. It’s a good show.
I think it was an ok show. Pity it got cancelled 🙁
