The Power series was a big hit for Starz and the spin-offs have also performed very well for the cable channel. Now, it’s been revealed that one of the announced spin-offs has been cancelled.
A crime drama, the Power series debuted in 2014 and ran for six seasons and a total of 63 episodes. Created and produced by Courtney A. Kemp in collaboration with Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, the show’s stars include Omari Hardwick (above, left), Lela Loren, Naturi Naughton, Joseph Sikora, Shane Johnson, and Rotimi Akinosho. It tells the story of James St. Patrick (Hardwick). An intelligent and ruthless drug dealer, he uses the alias of “Ghost” and wants to leave his life of crime behind and pursue legitimate business dealings as a nightclub owner.
In 2019, Starz ordered the Power Book II: Ghost spin-off series. Then, on the day that the Power series was coming to a close, the cable channel announced that three more series had been added to the slate.
Power Book II: Ghost, Power Book III: Raising Kanan, and Power Book IV: Force have all since launched and have performed very well for Starz, rivaled only by the channel’s popular Outlander series.
Plans for Power Book V: Influence, however, has been cancelled, according to the president of original programming for Starz, Kathryn Busby. The Influence spin-off was to star Larenz Tate (above, right) as politician Rashad Tate, a ruthless man pursuing power. A reason for the show’s cancellation was not given.
While Tate won’t be getting his own series, the actor has already played the councilman in a dozen installments of Power Book II: Ghost and is expected to return for the already-ordered third season. Tate previously played the role in 29 episodes of the original Power series.
Season two of Power Book III: Raising Kanan, starring MeKai Curtis and Patina Miller, is currently airing on Sunday nights. It has already been renewed for a third season.

Very disappointing. Larenz Tate could show so many layers to this character. Its a downright shame to cancel before the show even starts. Wrong move Starz. Larenz has many many fans who would have tuned in.

I have been a Power fan since day one. Can’t get into Raising Kanan. But I loved the one with Tyrique. And Power Force with Tommy is the Best!!! Love me some Tommy. Not disappointed about Influence. Might have been ok but no big deal for me on that one. But I would LOVE to see the return of Ghost! We never saw a body… I believe Ghost is alive!!!! And Nobody can play that part but Omari Hardwick. Yes!!!!
I have completely enjoyed all the shows related to this Power series. I’m a 65 year old retired teacher and I totally enjoy the drama and acting and story line. I can’t understand why the Influence show addition was cancelled. The series is a good and profitable series. Why cancel a good thing??? My vote is keep going! It’s great acting and drama

This ABSOLUTELY is garbage that Starz would take a stop show & shut it down after already delaying the show that was already airing with a audience that was clearly anticipating what’s to come & viewers that showed up for every spin off & season that they say is 1 of the TOP!! producing shows for the network. nah without the character Ghost the show spin-off was going no where
I am very disappointed about this series being cancelled. I was looking forward to seeing how far Larenz Tate could take this character with all his layers. It is a disservice to the fans of the Power Shows. He deserves this series and we deserve to see him shine. It is unfortunate that STARZ eliminating what could possibly be a number one show!!!
It always happen to black tv shows so it’s no surprise to me. Most net worth do the same thing that’s why we as black audiences need our own net worth to display out talents.

I’m very disappointed that Starz would cancel Power V Influence. Starz don’t have enough shows that I’m interested in with out the Power line up, once it’s done so is Starz subscription.
Bring back ghost, the shows suck without him. I am an adult, I want to see adult shows. You took a great series that was moving in the right direction with ghost moving into politics, a perfect graduation of a smart street black man to real power only to have killed by his son. That was lame and showed no real vision from it’s creators. I can go on for hours explaining where the show could be moving with ghost still in lead role. But, in short. Bring ghost back, the current shows suck.
