Third time’s a charm — though not for Greg Behrendt. In the third syndication cancellation in as many weeks, the Tribune group has cancelled freshman The Greg Behrendt Show.
The “self-help” talk show debuted in syndication on September 12, 2006 and was hosted by stand-up comedian and best-selling author Greg Behrendt. Each episode featured Behrendt attempting to change their lives in some way — from cheating boyfriends to lifestyle makeovers. (You can hear one guest’s experience via The Hollywood Podcast.)
The Sony Pictures Television-produced show was cancelled, like most, due to low viewership. In its four months, the “self-help” talk show attracted an average of only 880,000 households (0.8 rating) in daytime. It was tied with the similarly challenged The Megan Mullally Show that will go off the air at the end of this month.
The Behrendt cancellation may also be due to soft sales at the recent syndication show in Vegas as well as Tribune’s desire to sign up for the new The Steve Wilkos Show from NBC Universal. The Wilkos show will offer a different brand of “help” — more along the lines of the Jerry Springer variety. Wilkos was actually a security guard and sometimes replacement for Springer on The Jerry Springer Show for ten years.
The staff of The Greg Behrendt Show was reportedly told of the decision yesterday and production is expected to continue for the immediate future. A mix of original and rerun episodes will likely air until at least May.
greg–i love your show—you are the one show that i would watch as often as possible-i still don’t know how “they” could possibly figure out how many people watch a certain show–no body asked me! peace!
im looking for my cousin who ive never seen but always wonderd about him.My uncle his father passed away. And i dont know if he knowsi would really lov to meet him ,We only hav one picture of him and he looks just like his father i have no money to search can u help
i really liked the show and only had time to watch it a few times a week. he’s been through s lot being a bum on the couch for yrs as well as doing really bad other things… he has experience and can relate to other’s problems, and the show is different than that everyday mundane crap…
🙁 i miss him already
Greg’s show was the best of it’s comparable class I have ever watched.
As far as I’m concerned, Springer, Maury and Dr. Phil are sensationalized garbage shows compared Greg’s. Greg is certainly the most charismatic of them all.
Way too bad. This guy is real. He had normal people on his show. It says something for your society to have high ratings for a show like Maury and cancel Greg.
I hope someone else picks up producing the show.
Well, I’d been wondering why my 10AM TV slot had gone to the wacky world of Jerry Springer. I am obviously behind the times because i hadn’t heard that the Greg Behrendt’s TV show had been canceled. Well now i know, and am disappointed that yet another person with a skewed sense of humor has been shafted and taken off the air. I really enjoyed the show. I get so bored with Oprah, and Tyra, and Dr Phil…and stopped watching them long ago – Yes, I know that they help people, but it seemed that Greg was doing his thing… Read more »
I was finally going to email greg’s show and signing wasn’t working. I now know why. Please don’t cancel his show. When he did the makeovers he made me smile and I don’t smile alot. I finally ot enough courage to send an email about me which I know is very selfish. I have been married since “79 and my husband still calls me his bride and why he still loves me i will never know but will always be grateful. My looks especially my teeth which are scary hence why i don’t smile have broken and fallen out and… Read more »
This man reminded me of myself in the early 90’s–I used to buy my clothes off the JC Penney clearance rack and had that “sunglitz” blonde streaks in my hair. Ooooh this man screams the 90’s! But I’ve seen Greg’s show whenever I could, and he does seem like a genuine kind of dude. Sorta like my high school guidance counselor that had the classic rock station blaring on his portable radio in his office. The show airs at 9 a.m. where I live, and the time slot is all wrong. It should be tried out in late afternoon. His… Read more »
I really enjoyed that show. Can’t understand why Jerry Springer and all those ridiculous people are so popular. Greg has real people. I think his time slot may be the problem because only people who are home during the day can watch.
What cancelled? I just found the show and it’s great! Sony if ratings are that low try another time slot. Work with this one, it’s a great show for dating.
Yeah GB is the man, jerry springers ridiculous that show should be gone, GB is the best dude show shouldnt have been cancelled.better ratings if it was on at a better time
I have to agree that I will miss the GB show, Unfortunately I was only able to catch the first 45 minutes of the show. I wish it was on an hour earlier – where I live it came on at 2 and I have to be at work at 3. I really enjoyed watching Greg, he does seem very sincere and he is totally in touch with his female audience. Seems like a lot of guys feel a little threatened by that. I wish there were more guys like him, guys who aren’t afraid of showing how they feel.
I don’t understand this nation. Cancel a great show that made a difference in people’s lives only to replace it with pure junk. Way to go..only in the US.
Greg, “Daddy” you will be missed and you had an excellent show, the harley boots were the bomb. You have made a huge difference in my life. You will be missed!!
I loved this show, personallhy, and no offense to anyone who has been on one of these shows, but how do you expect you’re going to be dealt with on a made-for-t.v. psychology show? We all have our problems and there is always someone who has it worse than you; why do you feel the need to go on television with these issues? I guess my advice is just to expect the worst in these situations.
Oh, and why isn’t Tyra cancelled, yet? That show is a disgrace.
Ugh, we are stuck seeing this show in re-runs…more of the same daytime filler schlock by some semi-famous twit with bad Rod Stewart hair. I find him smarmy, insincere and filling the missing link between Springer and Maury. No wonder you Yanks have Bush as a President…
