It’s a bittersweet time to be an X-Files fan. The FOX series’ 11th season premiered on January 3rd, but star Gillian Anderson has said it will be her last.
Anderson has played the show’s co-lead, Dana Scully, since the sci-fi drama debuted in 1993 and has been part of every season. David Duchovny, who plays Fox Mulder, didn’t appear in all season eight and nine episodes of the original run. In the latest season, Anderson and Duchovny are joined by Mitch Pileggi, William B. Davis, Annabeth Gish, Bruce Harwood, Tom Braidwood, and Dean Haglund.
As reported earlier, Anderson has said season 11 will be her last on The X-Files. Series creator Chris Carter addressed the news of Anderson’s departure by saying he hasn’t even considered the show without her:
For me, the show has always been Mulder & Scully. So the idea of doing the show without her isn’t something I’ve ever had to consider.”
As of now, FOX has not renewed the series for a 12th season, but would you watch without Scully? Without Mulder? Tell us what you think.
I’d watch it without both of them. Their time is over. It’s time for fresh, new agents to take over!
I was an X-file dedicated fan from the very beginning, so for me, no – I would not watch the show without Scully. I’m still waiting for the story arc to give us closure on Mulder and Scully’s teenage son, William which I hope they do before the end of this half season. (Who ever heard of half-season television shows?) As for the new phenomenon of rebooting TVshows and movies people who were born in the early 90s are now in their mid to late 20s so they would probably be more open to an updated atmosphere and younger actors.… Read more »
Offer her more money. Maybe she would stay. It wouldn’t be as good if one or both main characters were not there.
I’m a major fan and have been there since the beginning but I have to say that season 10 and so far season 11 have been a disappointment. I respectfully think it’s time to go.
In a word YES!
Yes I would .. Possibly moving the “Einstein” Character, or another female show “regular” into the open spot as Mulder’s partner. Honestly – it may give the show a new spark
No. The two of them leave, I’m done.
I never watched it regularly with the original cast. Can’t imagine starting to watch with a new one.
The 11 & 12 seasons are nothing like the original ones. Better scrap this mess and leave us with beautiful memories and re runs.
No! Didn’t like last season’s without them
I never understand how these actresses and actors get a great gig a great job and then have the audacity to say they don’t want to return. I think it’s the best thing that she’s ever had to work in and she looks more beautiful than ever and I think she’s getting great dialogue and great opportunities to expand her acting depth there is obviously both drama and comedy here .. Unless she doesn’t like the cozier camaraderie with Fox – I’m hoping this is just her way of getting more money and that there will be a season 12… Read more »
Although I too feel that it wouldn’t be the “XFILES” without Scully & Mulder together, I understand people have their own lives, or desires. I could probably watch it with one of them replaced, but not both. I probably would lose interest only because of their personal agendas with that office. (e.g. their personal abductions, the pregnancy, Mulder’s sister, & the smoking-man being Mulders father, now possibly also William’s). So, to me, that show is their lives. Past, present, and ?future???
This series was dead the day Fringe aired.
We’ve seen nothing worth watching since.
I certainly have no interest in re-makes reboots or re anything else.
If they cant think of something new to do there’s a million books
out there on the shelves – go read some more.
It can only really be Mulder and Scully for me. Although I’m a big fan of the show, a lot of that ‘fanship’ is X-Files Mulder & Scully as a package deal.
I’d like to see kid of Scully for youngs… Teenagers movie… How he act to save humanity with some of his highscool collegues. On an alien spaceship if possible, or Aliens home planet.
