Losing It with Jillian: NBC Reality Series; Cancel or Keep It?

Losing It with JillianHaving found great success with The Biggest Loser, NBC has been running another weight-loss show, Losing It with Jillian. Will this new show stick around as long as the old?

Losing It with Jillian is a reality show that stars Jillian Michaels, a personal trainer who’s appeared on The Biggest Loser. Each week, Michaels visits a new family and attempts to get them on the road to healthy eating and fitness.

The NBC series debuted on June 1st to a 2.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 6.44 million viewers. While not great, those are decent numbers for a reality show debuting near the start of summer.

Unfortunately, many of those viewers didn’t return week after week. For episode two, the ratings dropped to a 2.1 in the demo and 5.7 million. By episode four, viewership dropped to a 1.2 rating and 3.72 million viewers. Last week’s was about the same and there are only two installments left.

Though reality shows are cheaper to produce than scripted fare, NBC has no reason to bring Losing It with Jillian back for a second season. The ratings aren’t good and they run the risk of weakening their Biggest Loser show by overexposing Michaels.

But, what do you think? Is Losing It with Jillian worth watching or should it be cancelled already? Is it better than Biggest Loser?

I enjoy the idea of the show and it’s presented well, however its overly dramatic and of course that has lost viewers–it doesn’t fit with our current culture people want something that seems more realistic–too many scenes seem staged. Jillian seems to show some real sincerity often, however the overly staged scenes of children explaining things dilute the scencerity

Keep it! I HATE television with a passion. There’s never anything that isn’t brain numbing on. This show actually had my dusting off my remote and my DVR. Now I have nothing to watch =0( Keep this show on air and lets get people inspired. Way to go Jillian!!

Keep it!!! It needs to be longer though. It feels like everything is crammed into a little less than an hour. Might get better ratings if the times didn’t keep switching from 8pm to 10pm and so on.

Lose It-fast!!!! I can’t imagine people with such low self-respect craving abuse by Jillian, the Bully!!! Perhaps such people can find solace in her screaming in their faces, however I think a good therapist would help them recover their inner selves much faster than Jillians demeaning them in front of friends and family, especially their children. This is the most un-healthiest program I’ve yet to see!!!

This show is a light in the darkness which is all of the crap that’s on TV. You can tell that Jillian cares about people and she knows what she’s talking about. It’s not about weight loss, it’s about changing peoples lives. Keep it up Jillian!

I agree with the above comment. This is a great family show, and it should be kept on NBC.I think that you should look at the last few weeks with the time change, presidential address.NBC does not have to ever worry about over-marketing Jillian Michaels, she is one of the main reasons that the Biggest Loser has been so successful.Who has been the coach for the most winners? Yep,your right Jillian Michaels.
The show should continue,I also think that it would be even more inspiring if it was longer than 1 hour. There is just to much material to try to edit and to place it into a hour spot.
Once the show is on in the summer,I think it would be better to have it a hour later,so many people are still outside until it gets dark on a weeknight.

This is one of the best reality shows on tv. It’s something that the entire family can sit down and watch while not being worried about obscenities. Everything that Krystal mentioned is true about the changing of the time slot, Presidential speech, etc. The summer months are always a harder time for tv because a lot of people are out more than in. I think the show would do much better being two hours long. There is so much that has to be edited to fit into a one hour time slot. I think NBC should think this over especially with the changing around with the time slot, Presidential speech, etc. that took place, should consider making it a two hour show, and try airing it during the winter months. I really believe making this a two hour show would make a Huge difference, look at the Biggest Loser. Jillian Michaels knows her stuff! :)

I agree Joan. I only the biggest loser for Jillian and her wisdom. Do extend the coverage of Losing It w/ Jillian because We need to know what the family thought of Jillian begin in their faces 24/7. I only want good thoughts!! Hope for season 2.
