FOX has cancelled their long-running TV series Cops after 25 years. Saturday marked the show’s last installments on the network. Fortunately, for fans of the series, it will continue on Spike TV.
TV Guide reports that Spike TV has ordered 22 new episodes for season 26 of Cops and they will start airing in September. The night and time will remain the same — Saturdays at 8pm — so fans will just have to remember to change the channel.
Spike TV president Kevin Kay says, “It’s the perfect show for Spike… We want the fans to just shift over hopefully effortlessly.”
The cable channel will also be licensing older episodes and will pair them with newer ones to create a full hour of Cops, much like FOX did (when they actually aired it).
What do you think? Is this a good move for Spike? Will you be watching in September?
I would rather see Coos on TruTv that’s my favorite channel to watch Cops and also I want more new seasons and episodes on Saturdays at 8pm on TruTv.
FOX treated Cops like a throwaway last season. More nights than not, they preempted it with sports or something else. I’d guess there were no more than 10-12 new episodes of Cops last season. So I am very glad to see it go to Spike, a good fit with the rest of their programming. Too bad for people who just have broadcast TV, though.
I only ever got tired of “Cops” because of how G4 ran it into the ground with their non-stop re-runs, but it’s a good thing that Spike picked it up.
