Operatives Jones and Beneventi won’t be uncovering answers on NBC in the 2021-22 television season. The Peacock network has cancelled the Debris TV series for a second year.
The Debris TV show stars Jonathan Tucker, Riann Steele, Norbert Leo Butz, and Scroobius Pip. The story begins as mysterious wreckage starts falling from the sky. A secretive international agency named Orbital is tasked with figuring out what the wreckage is, where it came from, and most importantly — what it can do. British MI6 operative Finola Jones (Steele) and American CIA agent Bryan Beneventi (Tucker) are partners but they have very different styles. However, they have no choice but to trust each other as they track down the debris scattered across the Western Hemisphere. Each fragment has unpredictable, powerful, and sometimes dangerous effects on the everyday people who find it. They must race against time as shadowy outside forces seek these objects for nefarious purposes.
Airing on Monday nights, the first season of Debris averaged a 0.38 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 2.79 million viewers in the live+same day ratings. While these numbers don’t include further delayed or streaming viewing, they are a very good indicator of how a show is performing, especially when compared to others on the same channel. Despite airing out of one of NBC’s highest-rated shows, The Voice, the drama was one of the network’s lowest-rated scripted shows.
The season finale of Debris aired on Monday night and not surprisingly left plotlines unresolved. The show’s series creator has talked about hoping to find a way to continue telling the story if it was cancelled.
Decisions have yet to be made on other NBC shows like Ellen’s Game of Games, Good Girls, Manifest, and Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist.
What do you think? Have you watched the Debris TV show? Do you wish that this sci-fi series had been renewed for a second season?
One of my top favorite shows! I’m definitely upset that this show has been cancelled! The characters and premises of the show made eager to watch every week. Now tv is being overrun with fake housewives and knocked up teens! I truly hope another network will pick this show up.
This was a smart sci-fi show. I’ve been following since it began airing, but a day later on Peacock +. I certainly hope it gets picked up by someone. Perhaps Netflix can step into the void and rescue this intelligent show.
kept changing ‘debris’ effects every episode… you never could follow with any logic where the left left turn would be.. and a ‘new’ major character in the last episode. really? other than this it was like watching paint dry.
My friend and I enjoyed this season and we are just shocked that they canceled the show! Not only that they canceled it but they left everything up in the air with no resolved plot lines at the end of the finale. I pray that some other network will pick this series up because the acting is good, the storyline was mesmerizing and entertaining. We have so few science fiction prime time TV shows and now they’ve gotten rid of this. I’m just really upset over it and so is my friend!
Now we’ll never know who John Noble’s character is supposed to be. Come on Netflix.
What a pity 🙁 really liked that one and was so interested in further storyline.
How heart breaking! How about moving it to a new day, time even a different FREE network to give it a second chance. Debris is such a cerebral show and so much better than the bulk of the nonsense that makes it on air. Do the lead characters not have lip filler or sleep around enough? Give intelligent programming time to find an audience. Network execs, you’ll make your money. You will get your pound of flesh. There is just so much fluff and garbage to weed through. At a minimum let a series complete their storylines. I’m still wondering… Read more »
Why don’t they just move it to Peacock, for pity’s sake? I’m fed up with network TV.
It IS on Peacock or was.
It is. I’ve been following it on Peacock since the beginning. I go to bed early so I watch it the following day on Peacock streaming. Sad that they cancelled such a smart show. Maybe Netflix can pick it up.
Everytime I find a great sci-fi to watch on your station it gets taken off. I should’ve known
I think it was a show that made you think. I loved it.
I AM SOOOOO UPSET!!!!!! I am into ufos and all kinds of mysteries. I always get condescending comments from my family but I finally got them to watch this show and they loved it!! Now it gets cancelled. This show is so entertaining and creative. Its one of those shows that when it comes to the end of the episode youre like WHAAAATT??? Because it draws you in so much that the time flies by. Love this show and characters and am praying that someone else picks it up. If the networks keep cancelling the good shows like theyre doing… Read more »
I was afraid it’d be killed. it was quirky enough to keep my interest. hopefully another network will pick it up.
So sorry this wasn’t renewed… Great entertainment..
NBC is crazy. This show is pure entertainment. The premise is intriguing and was my favourite show this year given all the other tripe on TV these days. This cancellation is so typical of big networks going with ratings versus quality. Maybe Jeff Bezos will pick it up he did this with other shows like “The Expanse”. I wonder why quality doesn’t matter so much. Sometimes a show needs a second season to really pick up the pace. This has happened with several highly rated shows on now such as NCIS when thye first started up. Shame on you NBC!
I have really enjoyed the show and the whole idea behind it. Made you think of how different object affect different people. Gave you a chance to think beyond everything going one way. Hate to see it cancelled, was my one Monday night show to watch. Not big on television, so this show really piqued my interest.
I was all in, but the last episode , hhhmm! That was when I kind of knew, there would not be a second season! Not sure who John Noble’s character was supposed to be! My feeling was he is an alien! There was no way a species had that much technology and perished!
