Kiefer Sutherland is no stranger to television viewers, having starred on more than 200 episodes of 24 on FOX. Will Designated Survivor be as big a success for ABC? Will it be cancelled after one year or, will it be renewed for a second season? Stay tuned.
A political thriller, Designated Survivor follows Tom Kirkman (Kiefer Sutherland), a lower-level Cabinet member, who ends up becoming the President of the United States. He struggles to keep the country and his own family from falling apart — while navigating the highly-volatile political arena and leading the search to find who is responsible for a horrific attack. The rest of the cast includes Natascha McElhone, Adan Canto, Italia Ricci, LaMonica Garrett, Tanner Buchanan, Kal Penn, and Maggie Q.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — typically around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
5/18 update: You can see the rest of the latest night’s ratings.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you like the Designated Survivor TV series on ABC? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
5/11 update: ABC has renewed Designated Survivor for a second season. Details here.
Yikes with numbers like that…..would be near impossible to turn a profit…on that franchise….
I really like this show….would be very disappointed if they cancel it..
After the election, you’d think the Hollywood left would quit beating the dead horse of the very failed leftist horsecrap responsible for the decline of this nation and the choice of the people to excise that cancer from the white house.
Cut the liberal crap, make kaffir southerland’s character a true common sense conservative and show the best of America…successful, thriving, and strong.
Great post…couldn’t agree more
I lost interest once the storyline made the conservative congresswoman the greedy power hungry villain. Name a show where a Republican is actually a good guy.
Once again the Hollywood elite pressing their agenda on us idiot viewers who obviously can’t think for ourselves. The show got silly. That’s why the ratings are going down every single week.
I loved the jack Bauer character, this character is weak.
Luv Designated survivor It really makes you think and get an idea of what out political enviorment could be or will soon become !
My boyfriend Tim and I are hooked. We find shows we can watch together and talk about and this is one. Love Keifer he’s amazing been watching him since I was a kid. We really like this show please don’t cancel. Thank you
It should be cancelled. It is the most slanted liberal show I have ever seen. You know this show is going to make the conservative white guy guilty of the bombing and propping up islam to look good. What a joke
TRIGGERED
As usual, this show will probably get cancelled cos of useless arrogant critics, ratings that aren’t breaking records, and a desire to think only of profits and not a bit about the fans of any given show. The network hobknobs are the bane of viewing community, and seem to be incapable of comprehending that one of the biggest reasons people stream and download from ‘illegal’ sources is because most don’t want to participate in paying the excessive bonuses paid to the execs, for shows that will be prematurely cancelled, and most likely without a decent ending. So not only does… Read more »
The show is showing a trend of dipping downward. The debut was strong, but episode over episode it has been disappointing to the point that I don’t care. Maybe there’s too many characters, too many distractions, too preachy, oh hell I don’t know. It’s a dud. I expected better, especially with Kiefer, but it isn’t there.
We love designated survivor. Good show
Not good, fairly unrealistic. Maybe the timing of the show during such a difficult election season is making it worse, but I for one wouldn’t want a President that was given the role because he was last on the list, and the fact that he wont step down is arrogant and wrong.
The first two episodes of DS were total fire, but he third was their time to slow down the pace and start coloring in their characters, but they completely failed on that note… Giving us a very straight forward, by the numbers, ‘here are the bad guys, here are the good guys’ black and white type portrait. I could t believe how bad it was compared to the thrill ride that was the first two episodes. I’m hoping it was a fluke, otherwise this is going to end up like another Quantico in terms of massive drops of viewership. Hope… Read more »
And in #4 you find out that all of that might have been have been pre-mature call. Maybe too realistic in the “fog of war” where partial info gets people jumping to wrong conclusions. Despite catastrophe scenario, there are still too many characters for many to be “colored in” with crayons. Any movie or TV series with wide appeal must focus on 3-4 characters in the first 6-8 hours and let everyone else be pretty much recurring robots (external action).or background for main character actions. Later you can add in more characters with depth at one per 4 hour block… Read more »
You forget West wing was quite a show and had more characters then this has. I didn’t agree with the politics of West Wing but I always enjoyed watching the show. Who can ever forget President Bartlet’s rant against God in the cathedral funeral of Mrs. Landingham.. All in Latin and magnificent.
Rarely does a show for me go from I love it too I hate it so quickly (like Blindspot last year), but it happened even sooner with this. What a snoozer. My timer is deleted…
The only thing that stinks more than the show is the moderator of this board. I wrote a comment expressing my utter disbelief that the press & the president were more outraged by the death of a teenager in Michigan than the wholesale destruction of the Capitol & the 3 branches of government. In this sites usual PC sensitivities it was censored. My crime? Identifying the teenager as he was portrayed. This country is most assuredly doomed.
Your comment wasn’t deleted. You’re not seeing it on this post because you posted it on another Designated Survivor post. Your comment is posted here: http://tvseriesfinale.com/tv-show/designated-survivor-full-season-order-new-abc-series/#comment-2442624
As we discussed on the other board…TIMELESS…I left two distinct comments for each show. My original comment here was apparently censored because in my original post here…D.S. I identified the teenager killed in Michigan & expressed my opinion that it was a little far fetched…to say the least…that the national story was the murder of the teenager…and not the assassination of our entire government.
It looks like networks actually use the Live +3 Day Ratings as well? In a day in age when less and less people are watching live TV, I hope that’s the case. DS got a huge bump from DVR. Let’s see how week 2 does
Favorite new show so far! Even though I loved 24, I was a little burned out on Kiefer & wondered if he was too typecast. I was pleasantly surprised to enjoy it. Interested to see if they can keep up the pace of the engaging story. Im not sure, but I think maybe the kids story with the drugs may be a bit boring and not believable.
