Frankie Drake Mysteries is ending its run on CBC with its current fourth season. Ovation aired the first three seasons of the Canadian series and it will likely air the fourth and final year, but a premiere date has not been set.
Lauren Lee Smith (above) stars in the detective drama set in the 1920s as Frankie Drake – the first female detective. She uses that to her advantage to solve cases with the help of her partner, Trudy (Chantel Riley). They are often aided by Toronto police’s morality officer, Mary Shaw (Rebecca Liddiard), and morgue attendant Flo Chakowitz (Sharron Matthews).
CBC announced the cancellation of Frankie Drake Mysteries on Instagram.

What do you think? Are you a fan of Frankie Drake Mysteries? Are you sad to hear that there won’t be a fifth season?
I always look forward to watching a great entertaining TV show. I’m sick of reality shows and this is fresh ingredients. I would like to know the reason for them cancelling.
Please bring back Frankie Drake . My husband and I love the show and it is always fresh and enjoyable.
I loved this show! It’s so hard to find a unique type of series. Interesting story lines, nice scenery and not the shoot em up, and definitely not the “just like every other show” kind of series. don’t get it darn it! Great costumes, characters, humor. Why cancel? I watched every one & am very disappointed Frankie Drake will not return. Canceled and we never know what happened to all of them! Please bring it back!
Am hoping that Frankie Drake will be revived!
“The Cafe” on PBS ended season 3 with major developments pending in each main characters’ story lines. Then the series wasn’t renewed for season 4. Very, very disappointed, angry even!
I loved this show from episode 1 and look forward to it showing up on PBS in the US. I just finished watching Season 4. I am especially upset that they chose to cancel with a cliffhanger ending. At the very least give fans a wrap-up special.
Eventually, fans will stop watching dramas with continuing storylines because of this trend. And production companies need to start thinking about how a show will live on in the streaming world. No one wants to start a series knowing that it does not have a conclusive ending.
It does happen sometimes, but can you give some examples of the recent trend? I’m not aware of recent dramas ending in cliffhangers, other than this one. But then again, I’m trying to stop watching TV all together. Of course, Frankie Drake could just petition Netflix to revive it, like they do with every other show for just one season each.
Please bring Frankie Drake. This writing was great. It is nice to see shows where it it the woman who comand respect and are very intelligent. There are other shows which you know what is happening. Frankie Drake was not one of them. This would be nice to bring back as a movie to tie everything together.
Loved the humor and acting!! Should bring Frankie Drake back as this world needs this show!!
What a shame that a strong female cast is shut down as it gets better and better with age!
You should not cancel shows with what appears to be a cliff-hanger. You should plan for the possibility and shoot a show that can be the first of the next season, if renewed, or can be showed as a special to tie up loose ends. Too many shows do this, with no regard to fans.
The final episode is usually filmed 6-8 weeks before it airs, if not earlier. If the network is waiting for the late season ratings to decide on renewal (because not enough people have been watching all year long), there is just no way to balance needing to wait on the decision with the storytelling decisions made while writing and filming the episodes.
Why do they cancel the best ones and keep the junk?
Because of ratings. That’s how cancellations and renewals work.
Why ? Just why? One of the best shows ever, say it ain’t so Joe! Please work on #5 This can’t end I’m crushed,
I am shocked that Frankie Drake will not continue to Season #5. Why on earth? Each episode since Season 1 has been highly original, fun, and an absolute joy to watch. It has one of the best ensemble casts ever. The stories are fresh, fun, and original. The character development has been amazing. CBC what are you thinking?! I live in the U.S. Season 4 just became available on PBS Passport. I have loved Season 4 and was enthralled by the Lady Justice episode and the introduction of Boysie. I thought I can’t wait to see where this goes! I… Read more »
I just watched the final episode, and I really can’t believe that there won’t be another season! Who makes these decisions? I LOVE this series!
Sad to hear Frankie Drake is not being renewed shows featuring women leads w a black female co lead and strong women characters are in short supply Grieves me how casually CBC can cancel very good shows …. The CBC brain trust is definitely not Phi Beta Kappa material… come on rethink this decision
It really falls on the viewers. Not enough people were watching. This isn’t unusual, the highly popular shows are often not the shows with the best writing or the strongest leads.
This sounds like you are committing your network to air shows with weak leads and bad writing just because they are get more viewers. I do not see that you made a great effort to publicize this show. Whatever happened to a commitment to quality and to leading the way? You had a show with strong female and minority leads and a balanced cast and you are giving it up for what? more shoot em up shows? More lowest common denominator, cheap to film ‘reality’ shows? so disappointed. will not watch your network again.
