The magic is gone, at least for now. TNT has cancelled The Librarians TV show after four seasons. On Twitter, executive producer Dean Devlin confirmed that he had just received a call confirming the cancellation. However, a glimmer of hope remains. Devlin said he will, “…immediately begin the process of trying to move the show elsewhere,” and asked fans to keep their fingers crossed.
A TNT fantasy-adventure drama, The Librarians stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Harlan Kim, and John Larroquette, with Noah Wyle recurring as veteran librarian, Flynn Carsen. Like the film franchise, the TV series centers on the ancient organization dedicated to safeguarding an unknowing world from the secret, magical reality hidden all around. The librarians serve as the protectors of the world’s mystical treasures.

The Librarians: A Look at the Ratings
The fourth season of The Librarians averaged a 0.29 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 1.45 million viewers. Compared to season three, it was down by 38% and 20%, respectively. From that perspective, the cancellation makes sense.
Among the eight first-run scripted TNT TV shows we’re currently tracking, The Librarians ranks fourth in terms of its demo ratings average and drops to fifth in terms of average total audience. Running in the middle of the pack after four seasons is still respectable. However, in the last year or so, TNT has been repositioning itself as the home of edgy, grittier drama. The Turner-owned cable network even cancelled Major Crimes this year — its number one show. Like that procedural, it seems like The Librarians is as much a victim of the cable net’s new image, as of Nielsen households.
What do you think? Are you a fan of The Librarians TV series? Shoul it have been cancelled or renewed for season five on TNT? Sound off, in the comments.
I am a fan of silly, campy shows that we can watch as a family. So few left nowadays if you don’t want to watch Disney or Nickelodeon. I loved shows like Warehouse 13, Eureka, Leverage, Psych, Monk, and Castle. So I did like this one too. Such a shame that the only shows that make it nowadays have raunchy humor or reality shows that focus on disgusting people. Hope DD does find an outlet for this show that isn’t going to cost me any extra $$$.
I knew that The Librarians was in trouble the moment they changed the night it was on! Yes, we go 12 episodes, but having double episodes for the 1st 3 weeks and during the holidays clinched it for me! It’s EXACTLY the way TNT treated Leverage! I prayed I was wrong, but, alas, I was right! One of the times I wished I was wrong! It needs to be picked up by another venue!!! I love this show!!!
I liked it although at times too silly. Good escape from cop shows, medical shows self absorbed actors and musicians shows. There is always Netflex.
I love this show! Its fun! A very nice escape from gritty murder shows and all the political drama. The cast is great and I love their interactions. Sure it could have better writing blah blah, but I enjoy being along with them for the ride. I WILL WATCH ON ANOTHER NETWORK!!!!!!
Renew….
I love this show, but I’ve hated TNT since they did Leverage dirty. They play this game all the time. They take a show that is doing well, but they don’t want it anymore, and stop promoting it, change its air date and air time. They make it harder for fans to find it, so the ratings will go down. Its why I call it the ADHD network. Their all the time chasing the shiny new object or idea.
Sue, I am soooooooooooo with you on that! I’ve boycotted TNT since their “mis-handling” of Leverage!! I haven’t been back, and I never will. I set up a DVR for The Librarians episodes and also bought them through Amazon. Cable is dying, anyway, and I hope TNT is the first in the graveyard!
I live The Librarians. Best show ever.
The only decent show on tv. I may as well get rid of the tv now.
As a retired librarian, I found the show refreshing and energetic with the subtle suggestions of a library being a TRUE storehouse of knowledge. Not Emmy acting but the cast had real chemistry which made the show fun.
The Librarians was an awesome family oriented series that never left me embarrassed to watch with the kids. What true disappointment hearing it was cancelled when so many other shows could have been canned yet live on for no good reason. I really hope it finds a home on another network and lasts for more than 10 years that way TNT will know what a poor decision they made.
I love this show and wait patiently each season for it to come back. I hate for it to be canceled. TNT was one of my favorite networks but losing Major Crimes and now The Librarians is making me rethink this.
First of all how dare They cancel “The Librarians” now TNT Network Television Station are making a big, enormous, giant, huge and jumbo mistake but I now do hope pray wish that Dean Devlin and the entire Cast/Crew do get transferred to another Cable/Television Network because when TNT realize that the Fans are speaking out to renew “The Librarians” for Season 5 and so on especially the continuation of Flynn Carsen aka: Noah Wyle! Please SAVE THE LIBRARIANS!!!
I love the show and hope someone picks it up, there are not enough shows like this on TV perhaps SyFy?
I enjoyed the show, I am sorry to see it end. It was my fun show to watch. I don’t know how I am going to fill the void, hopefully it will find a new network!
Am very sad to see The Librarians go. Am not surprised since they only had it on once a year and we never knew for sure when it was going to be on. Hope they can find another network for it. I will watch for sure. As for TNT–that was the last show I watched since they took off all my other favorites–won’t be watching anymore. Don’t like any of their other shows. They give the wrong messages, I think.
