Get ready for Project Grizzly on Animal Planet. The new series will arrive on the network next month, and it will show how one man introduces two rescued bears back into the wild.
Animal Planet released a press statement about this new series. Check it out below.
Bear trainer Jeff Watson has worked with the majestic animals for more than 20 years but recently decided his two rescue bears should be introduced to the wild. In Animal Planet’s new series PROJECT GRIZZLY, viewers join him on his emotional struggle to do right by his beloved bears as he teaches Bob and Screech, his two 700-pound grizzlies, how to survive in the deep wild. The six-part adventure premieres Saturday, November 12th at 10PM ET/PT on Animal Planet.
After making a life of rescuing and raising bears, Jeff Watson had an epiphany – bears do not belong in captivity. Jeff sets out to reverse the cycle of man’s ownership over animals starting with Bob and Screech. Saving them at just six weeks old, he raised them as his family and now believes after three years, their destiny is to live in the wild.
PROJECT GRIZZLY follows Jeff as he embarks on a challenging mission to teach his bears how to be wild. To do that, he has to undo all Bob and Screech have learned in captivity. Settled in a remote location in Indiana, he teaches Bob and Screech how to fend for themselves by hunting and fishing, learning to hibernate and ultimately break their dependence on Jeff. While Jeff understands this is an incredible and dangerous challenge, he is sometimes plagued with doubt when faced with unforeseen hurdles, but his determination to bring these bears to their true home keeps Jeff focused.
PROJECT GRIZZLY is produced for Animal Planet by This is Just a Test. Aengus James, Colin King Miller, and Myles Reiff are the executive producers for This is Just a Test. For Animal Planet, Keith Hoffman is the executive producer, Pat Dempsey is the producer and the series was developed by Kurt Tondorf.

Great series for the entire family! Why it has to be dvr’d to watch as a family is beyond me. Especially to have reruns play before it over and over. I just hope and pray it’s not picked apart and cancelled by some moron that doesn’t have a clue what GREAT FAMILY tv is all about. If the ratings are down try A FAMILY FRIENDLY time slot, and some advertising instead of blaming the show, and lack of viewing.
We love the show.Jeff did a GREAT job bring us Into the life of his bears.I am really sorry to here about his loss of his wife.God Bless and Peace.
I love the show! It’s very educational and interesting to watch bears so close while they grow and learn new things. I was very hesitant to see what Jeff’s final decision would be but am thrilled with his wise decision. I’d love to see an updated feature show or perhaps Season 2 . Thank you Jeff!! Great work!
I always looked forward to watching and following the progress of Bob, and Screetch. I would love to continue to follow this adventure with Jeff, Bob, and Screetch!
I think it is wrong to raise animals in captivity and then turn around and throw them back into the wild to fend for themselves, especially with one having a bad foot. This show is just going to make people think that it’s OK to turn their pets loose in the wild to fend for themselves. Their were already ass hole people in the world who thought it was alright to do this. This show is just creating more irresponsible ass hole people.
Really like the show. Keep up the good work Jeff. Thank you for all you do.
Love the show but I think it will have a very sad ending and really am torn at watching
Love this show
Love, Love Love this show
Sunday a.m. I woke up to my husband watching this series. It caught my attention. The way the show is presented is informative and entertaining at the same time. Jeff is so involved in his project that it makes you feel like you’re watching him and his family. I am surprised that I actually liked the show. We watched, what seemed to be, the entire series today. Great show!
Its not available in Canada! Disappointing.
Yes it is available in Canada, I am from Canada and have been watching the series every week. Love the show by the way and the fact that Jeff is willing to try and intro them into the wild shows how much he loves them and has their best interests at heart. Way to go!!
The thing that bothers me about the filming of the reintroduction of the bears to the wild is the fact that some egocentric big game wannabe may find them easy to hunt and get their big kill of a major trophy, like a dentist did by killing a culture’s beloved lion in Africa.
That is what bothers me…not the fact that they will get the chance to be naturalized bears in their proper environment..that is a good thing.
The location for release should be carefully chosen for total seclusion in an area that does not allow human activity.
Oh Jeff, I love watching anything you do with your babies.. If this is what you realllllly need to do, than do it. they are your but….. My heart is breaking for you and them.
Yes I will! I have known Jeff over 20 years. Good guy and what he does is amazing and still have time for family and friends!
Heck yeah, finally some actual animal shows on Animal Planet. Need to get back to the Wild Kingdom and get away from domesticated pets and tree houses.
