Since The Catch TV show was cancelled by ABC, last night’s season two finale ended up being The Catch TV series finale. Before the cancellation news broke, executive producer Allan Heinberg discussed the episode, “The Mockingbird,” and his plans for a third season.
An ABC cat-and-mouse crime dramedy, The Catch stars Mireille Enos, Peter Krause, Jay Hayden, Jacky Ido, Rose Rollins, Sonya Walger, Elvy Yost, and John Simm. Gina Torres and T.R. Knight recur in the second installment.
Deadline reports that if The Catch had been renewed for a third season, job one would have been to repair the bromance between Rhys (Simm) and Ben (Krause), and “get them back on speaking terms.” Here’s more:
DEADLINE: Let’s play out both scenarios. If The Catch comes back, you’ve set it up so that there are any number of routes you could take. Ben and Rhys would be a significant plotline. Danny and Margot. All those things are in place. But if it doesn’t come back, should we view tonight’s final scene as sort of Casablanca standing-on-the-runway saying goodbye?
HEINBERG: That was our intention! We wanted to do Casablanca for the end of the show. We decided on Casablanca like halfway through the season. Ben had made a huge sacrifice for Alice at the end of Season One, and I knew that Alice had to make a huge sacrifice for Ben at the end of Season Two, and so we did the reverse Casablanca, gender-wise.
If it does end up being the series finale, I feel like it was still satisfying for me because everybody’s in love, you know what I mean? It’s sort of a happy ending. Danny knows that Margot loves him and cares about him, and Ben and Alice have this really strong connection, even though Alice’s feelings for Ethan are still sort of in play. So everybody but Val got a nice sort of romantic happy ending, and at the same time we created a situation where we can continue the conflict as we move into Season Three. So I hope it’s satisfying for people.
DEADLINE: If you get a Season Three, do you know who’s coming back? What characters would be on your wish list?
HEINBERG: As far as I’m concerned, everybody would be coming back. I would love for everybody to come back. I fell madly, madly in love with Gina Torres this year. She’s got her Suits spin-off that she’s suiting up for, but I’ve been told we could get at least four episodes with her if she was available, if not more. And Warren Christie and Philippa Coulthard would come with us, ideally as series regulars.
I mean, I’d love to see Troy, the Human Hard Drive, again, if we could.

Really disappointed it will not be coming back
Can’t the show go to a different network. I really like this show. It’s like a James bond /Casablanca series. I’m very sad if this show is discontinued

Wow you have to be the only major production company that would drop your second best show; Last Man Standing and then turn around and also drop The Catch. From a business sense is ABC shooting themselves in the foot purposely? Nothing like spiteing your face by cutting off your nose. All I can say is good luck, but you’re not going too rise to any spot of recognition with the way decisions are made in your boardroom.
i love the show wish it would be pick up by another network wish they could come up and work something out cause some of those show on i saw will not watch them for that hour will be change the show
I loved The Catch. Also loved Doubt. Instead we get God awful bachelor and bachelorette , Steve Harvey. And other infantile programs which are really insulting.
The Catch gives me life. All the story lines leave me glued to the screen (No bathroom break) lol. Great cast, great show! I love it! Please renew for a third season.
I loved this show. It had a great cast, crisp writing and was a lot of fun. I thought it had a nice retro feel, almost like a Cary Grant movie. Who is the imbecile who cancelled it?

Yes!! I absolutely enjoyed this show, from the first trailer to the series finale. Why, oh why did it have to end so soon?? It was an excellent show and a great summer (rerun)replacement show. It was sharp, stylistic, colorful and different. It was good to see people of a “certain” age(over 30)upfront and essential in a primetime show. I loved the stories, the relationships and the premise of the show…love of and from a good woman can change a man for the better(LOL).
I just love this show and very upset it was cancelled. It’s full of action, funny, romantic and never know what is happening next. GREAT writers ! Please, please bring back this show – please do not cancel!

I love this show. It is romantic, sexy, funny and fresh. The characters and actors are great., and we all deserve a season 3!
Bad move ABC quirky fun and endearing show that makes you want to keep watching. There are some crap shows out there (this show is not one of them) that are still going. Best casting I’ve seen in a long time. Shame on you! Yes to another network picking it up you don’t deserve it ABC!
