TV show description:
Set in Westport, Connecticut, this single-camera comedy series revolves around an average wife and mom who does her best to stand out from the community’s “perfect” housewives and their privileged children.
A confident, unapologetic wife and mother of three, Katie Otto (Katy Mixon) is in her forties. She’s also a woman of a certain size, intelligent, very funny, and loving. Despite her flaws and unconventional ways, Katie ultimately only wants the best for her kids and will fight tooth-and-nail to instill some good old-fashioned values in them, if it’s the last thing she does.
Her husband, who’s a well-educated professor of history, is named Greg (Diedrich Bader). Logical, Greg supports Katie in every way possible but is always grounded. They work to make sure their children do not end up like everyone else in their neighborhood. Unfortunately, that isn’t going to be easy.
Their oldest teenage daughter, Taylor (Meg Donnelly), is already set on the “perfect” path. Gorgeous at 14, her form of rebellion from her parents is her single-minded focus on sports. Athletics come naturally to Taylor, who has no interest in (or aptitude for) school work.
Middle-child Oliver (Daniel DiMaggio) is 12 and is clean-cut, self-assured, articulate, and a self-professed fiscal conservative. He’s the kind of kid who refuses to join in his school’s food drive because it promotes a welfare state. Deep down, he’s a good kid and uses his wits to find ways to help people and develop his portfolio.
Anna Kat (Julia Butters then Giselle Eisenberg) is the youngest of the Otto clan and sometimes needs a little extra help navigating life. She has OCD, which results in some strange behavior — she has to stand still when the clock is 13 minutes past the hour, she has one ritual for going upstairs and another for everything else in her life, and she is compelled to pee exclusively in the back yard.
Katie’s friends, Angela (Carly Hughes) and Doris (Ali Wong), help keep her struggles all in perspective and are the allies she needs in a town where “keeping it real” is not a compliment.
Episode #103 — The Election
Katie pushes Cooper (Logan Pepper) to share his passion for the culinary arts and ambition of becoming a chef with his autocratic father, Doyle Bradford (Joel McHale). Meanwhile, Greg and Principal Ablin (Jerry Lambert) go head-to-head when the election results offer an interesting twist, and the Otto family gets the surprise of a lifetime on the season finale.
First aired: March 31, 2021.
What do you think? Do you like the American Housewife TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled or renewed for a sixth season?
JUST AWFUL!
I like Katy Mixon in this show she’s funny. She was hilarious in Mike and Molly keep this show on.
I just watched this for the first time. I can be sure I won’t watch again. The mother in this show is a bully in a time we are trying to teach our children to be kind to others! I was completely disgusted by the entire half hour.
It’s a show!! We need more laughs on tv or would you rather watch the ugly news!!
Not sure if you are watching the same show as the rest of us! Katie is laugh out loud hilarious, sarcastic as heck, protective of her flock, and keeps in real in a world of bullies!
Watched the first episode and part of the second. The main character comes off as a bitter person who is unhappy with the choices she has made (so she takes it out on other people around her). She is the kind of person who would suck the fun and oxygen out of any room. The show is terrible…kill it with fire and replace it with a test pattern.
I agree.Bitter, shrew who hates everbody and everything.S needs therapy.Sarcastic and hurtful remarks.Thinks she’s above everyone else.Reminds me of mean girls in Jr High!immature.
What about Roseanne she was the same way but that show lasted a long time. Its just an updated version of it.
This is absolutely the dumbest show. The main character is a total shrew. Not funny at all.
Cancel it already! Every week it’s the same episode, she complains about being fat while shoveling food at the diner and complains about everything and everyone.
This show is awesome! I couldn’t stop laughing! I can’t wait for season 2 already!!!!!
I love this show !
What an excellent show. We watch it as a family and often laugh so hard we are crying. Love it and hope it gets renewed!
Great show! Love it.
I am so disappointed in this show. My family and I were looking forward to watching it together, but the language and trash talk were over the top. Not my family.
I looked forward to watching this show from the first anouncement. After the first airing never again. At least a couple of the scenes were unfit for an 8:30 eastern time slot and definitely unecessary. It is too bad. It could have been good.
love katy mixon! you go girl!
I liked this show, I think it will settle down. The first ep just introduces the characters anyway. I love Katy Mixon, the kids are cute and funny, and hopefully Mike and Molly’s audience will pull over. It’s definitely different, but maybe only upsize women will like it. This one does!
I began watching this show after “The Middle” last night. The situations and language were absolutely unacceptable for a show on prime time. I am no prude, but as a teacher I know how impressionable young people are and sometimes tell their teachers when they use this language that it’s okay because they heard it on television. Obviously, this show is aimed at Hillary’s “deplorables,” but our mission in public schools is to elevate language usage and explain why certain topics are unacceptable. That task comes more difficult when students are exposed to offfensive language and situations on major networks… Read more »
Don’t like, don’t watch. It’s that simple.
If they want this show to continue, they should change the name. It does not represent the American Housewife at all, at all! I have found myself embarrassed the few times I tried watching it. I couldn’t watch it with my children let alone my friends because of the language and some of the actions/gestures. The children and their dad are okay, but the wife’s/mother’s language and actions/mannerisms are beyond normal and leaves a lot to be desired!
You should watch some of the other shows on tv…. I’ve watched this show since the first episode and I don’t recall any offensive language. You must really get offended with some of the commercials they put on the air. What about them? Why bring in Politics in a comment about a tv show?
