NBC rounded out their Monday night schedule with a new cop series, Chase. Police shows have performed very well for the networks for years but how did this one perform? Is it a keeper or will it be quickly cancelled?
Chase follows US Marshall Annie Frost (Kelli Giddish) as she heads up the Houston Enforcement & Apprehension Task Force. Annie and her team (played by Cole Hauser, Amaury Nolasco, Rose Rollins, and Jesse Metcalfe) hunt down America’s most dangerous fugitives.

The premiere garnered a disappointing 2.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 7.3 million viewers. That put Chase in third (last) place in both categories. It lost a significant number of viewers from lead-in The Event — 36% of the demo and 33% of total viewers. It also lost about 15% of viewers in the demo between the start and finish of the episode.
While this is much better than last year’s The Jay Leno Show, this mediocre start doesn’t bode well for Chase’s future. If the ratings decline in week two, as they typically do for new shows, it could be in real trouble.
Based on this performance alone, it seems unlikely that NBC would bother ordering any episodes beyond the initial 13 installments.
So, what do you think? Is Chase worth watching? Do you like the show or should it just be cancelled?

I know a guy who is pitching a system that could replace the Neilsen Ratings system with real time viewership from all households (now that we have digital converters, info. can be delivered and retrieved). He was told by a major studio exec that they couldn’t afford to work with him and use his numbers because who would “approve them?” What would make those household numbers have any credibility. The problem with wanting to change the ratings system is two fold: 1. The stations group wants the numbers to be as high as possible because that’s what they base the… Read more »
The show opened with brutal implied violence and continued with more explicit violence. Excellent for cable shows… wait, this was network? What Law Enforcement Agencies send small female officers chasing, catching, and whupping up on bigger armed and dangerous felons? If the officers ever actually shot and terminated the bad guys, it would have been very enjoyable, and, I hope, more realistic, but instead it was ridiculous. Reminiscent of ancient bad guy chase scenes which culminated in bloodless fistfights, always won by the good guys. Writing needs much improvement. NBC dumped Law & Order for this?
I like this show. I agree with many of the users on here, that it is time to SCRAP the “Nielsen Ratings” system. I can’t understand in this century, with cable, DVR’s on demand, and so on, that they still base “ratings” on reporting technology from 45 years ago. Do they have any idea how many people really watch these shows? No. Do they understand that, some of us work, don’t have all evening to watch TV, can’t tune 3 channles at once, and so on, so a lot of us maybe, watch Chase and record Hawaii 5-0 for later?… Read more »
Everyone I know…oh, and by the way, we are Texans, loved this show. I loved the fact that it went from scene to scene very fast and covered a LOT of ground, instead of skipping through like so many other shows. I sat on the edge of my seat the whole show. The actors are great and the story-line is real and if you had any law-enforcement in your family, you’d know these are true to life. I cannot believe that a bunch of half-baked wannabees are trying to sabotage this show. I have watched some of these actors on… Read more »
I’m all for girl power and I like the concept of having a female “kick ass” U.S. Marshall but she’s going to have to pick up the attitude for me. The acting came across as very mono-toned; not alot of personality. Cole Hauser on the other hand was perfectly executed! You might consider working the storyline around him more than with Kelly. He has more sex appeal & personality at this point….that could possibly keep your viewing audience until Kelly can deliver or you can replace her with someone more believable. It’s worth keeping for at least two more episodes… Read more »
Plot is OK, but the writing was very…Boring. We plodded through the first episode but when we hit a commercial we were amazed at how much was left of the show on the Tivo fast-forward marker. It just seemed like they stretched a half hour into four hours. We canceled our Season Pass after this. It’s just not engaging. The wife said it was cut together from leftover COPS footage, you know, the stuff that wasn’t good enough for TV. Personally, I kept waiting for her to fall over while chasing felons wearing cowboy boots across washers and dryers in… Read more »
An absolutely ghastly, formulaic complete waste of time. The cast looks to consist of untalented former underwear models. The plotting and writing are strictly bottom of the barrel. In other words it’s just like every other “new” show this season. Don’t just cancel this show – burn it.
I love the show, so please keep it up. Kelly & Cole are doing a great job.
I actually loved this show, but PLEASE stop calling her “boots!!!” It really just sounds ignorant… Kelly and Cole are both doing a great job, and I really like Jesse Metcalf as well!
Great show i’ll continue you watching.
I think this should be given a chance – top notch ensemble cast, and interesting to watch. I will tune in again to give it more time – you should too.
What kills me with all the numbers is gthat the Neilson ratings are only from a certain number of people. Thay have no clue what the majority of the world was really watching. so they may be canceling shows that are being watch by more viewers than they give credit. It really ticks me off.
actually was a 2.5 we’ll be interesting to see how it does next week
@Anonymous: In the early numbers it was a 2.5 but, when the finals came in it was a 2.3
I really liked the first episode, I hope the numbers will improve, I want more of this show!
There are already two excellent US Marshall shows on the air: “In Plain Sight” and “Justified.” Chase looks like a standard cop drama with nothing to make it stand out from the others. Unless they find something to set themselves apart (and the premier didn’t give me the impression they had, yet), I don’t see this lasting past one season at most.
